KDX on top of the Gila NF

Went to ride the Gila National Forest this weekend...

I called it the anti-Westfest ride.

Did some maintenance tonight, including the forks.

I find it odd that nobody in the web (that I could find) would outright state how much volume of fork oil to add. Really? For a stock fork?

A bunch of crap about measuring, pumping the damper rod, measuring again, adding or removing fluid to arrive at a measurement of 100-140mm air space.

Doing all this shit, I came up with about 490mL of 10wt added to a stock fork with 120mm to the top of the tube (spring removed, tubes compressed).
Only about 350mL of grey sludge came out of the fork.

In the process, I fabricated a simple helper tool. In the disassembly video I watched, the guy had particular trouble compressing the spring to fit a spanner wrench in there to take the cap off the damper rod. This solved the issue. Compress the spring a bit and slide this under the nut to make it accessible. Just a simple piece of steel plate with a notch cut in it.

Raced the Crosstimbers National Enduro yesterday in OKC.

Muddy at times. Finished 6th place in C+30. It was fun.

Last year we had 3" of rain the day before the race. I rode it on my KLR.

It's an 84 kdx200 motor in a 2005kx250f chassis. It went together very well. It's very light. I can't wait to ride it. A couple odds and ends to do still. My buddy had an older Kdx and I loved that bike. That motor in this chassis will be a bullet proof trail missile.

Hey everyone. I'm thinking of going to look at a 98 KDX220 that is about a 3-4 hour ride from my house. The bike is currently street registered in his state so I'm figuring I should be able to register it in my state easy enough. I'm wondering how these bikes are for street use, what can I expect for gas mileage per tank? I know it will be a pain to do premix on the road but I'm sure I'd get the hang of it. Are there any problem areas to look for on these bikes that aren't obvious to the naked eye? Any other info you can offer up would be great.
