i just bought a 2008 beta 525RR wit the euro DS kit on it. im curious to why it idles so high once it gets 100% warmed up.. Also what octane gas do most of you guys use?

How high is the idle? There should be an idle speed knob on the carb. The KTM RFS motor likes to idle at 1800 RPM to keep from activating the automatic decompressor. KTM calls for 91 octane (US), I bet the Beta is the same.

Check your valve clearances.

just messed with the carb a little. I turned the gas flow a little more down and runs a lot better at idle when i first start it. after it getting completely warmed up it idles at a lot higher rpm. i guess i could just be paranoid coming from fuel injected bikes.

Since you just bought the bike make sure you go through some basic maintenance.

Tight valves (they get tight over time) causes low compression which can lead to the problem you described. On the KTM RFS motor the valve check and adjustment is pretty easy to do.

After having it for about 6 months I just sold my DR650. Good bike but I want something more dirt oriented. Anyone know where there is a good deal on a 520RS? Make it quick as the Husky dealer is tempting me with a new, 2014 TE511 for $6500!!!!!!!!

Just sold a te449. 449/511's are dead after this year as well as anything else made by BMW. Id be careful buying 'new old stock' just because they are cheap.

On other hand, I wouldn't sell you my 520 for anything

Here is a video for the KTM RFS motor (which is what I believe is in that bike):

You can also go to the American Beta website and download the shop manual for no charge.

Going 300 miles for a not so common (and very cool) bike like that is a no brainer. I would consider myself lucky if I was looking and found one that nice that close. The last bike I went to fetch was an overnight trip - and totally worth it.
