Just out of curiosity, I took my first trip ever to a Harley dealership today. Pulled up on my bike (kawasaki), walked in, looked around for 30 minutes. Not once did anyone in the store even say hello. Not that I minded that much, just seamed odd. Oh, and I was the only customer in the place. Also went to the Triumph and BMW dealers. BMW dealership was the friendliest. Maybe I need to wear chaps or something.

Your bike was probably too quiet for them to notice.

I looked at a Harley along time ago, asked the salesman how much $$
He said "If youy have to ask, you can't afford it"
This was in the late Eighties when they weren't building them fast enough to keep on the floor.
I told him I just needed to know what to write on the check, but fuck you I'll buy a Suzuki, and walked out.
What an asshole, I'm sure that was an isolated incident, and I might go to another HD dealer someday, but never that one.

Nah. It was rampant right up through the peak in 2006...

MSRP is an arbitrary number set by the manufacturer. It means nothing.

I think they are better now. Let it go, you don't need this anger.

Funny, I got the same experience at my local HD store.

My local dealer has been nothing but nice. First time I went in was to buy Buell mirrors for my Moto Guzzi. Sales guy came out to see the Guzzi and really liked it. Parts guy wanted to know what bike I wanted the mirrors for and was very helpful with the special order. Even asked me to bring the bike in when I had the mirrors on. He thought it was cool they would fit.

They have let me test pretty much anything I wanted. I was riding a DL650 then. I haven't taken the F6B in though.

This has been my experience at several HD dealers I've been to. I've never owned one but have looked on several occasions and my experience has always been positive.

My experience is that HD and BMW are more than ready to let you take a bike for test ride and will answer questions all day. They're more than ready to sell you a bike. Not necessarily at the price you want but that's what supply and demand is all about.

Doesn't the "S" stand for "suggested".

A guy I know keeps saying there is a six month waiting list to get a Harlye every time motorcycles come up in conversation. I ask him why the showroom at the Harley dealer is full and he looks at me as if I am from mars.

My local HD dealer told me that they have a couple of 2014 touring bikes in stock and available for test rides. An Ultra and a Street Glide special. I guess I'll have to check it out.

The Harley dealer who sold me my XR was the first dealer to ever offer me a test ride.

I got the notion in my head a month ago that I'd like to try out a Street Bob, so I set up a demo ride at the local dealer. Nice enough bike, shakes like hell at idle but fine underway, still can't get myself used to cruiser ergos. Anyhow, briefly talking numbers, I was offered the bike at $1500 off MSRP (plus tax and tags, no setup fees). Seemed like a good deal to me if I were inclined to buy...

A friend of mine has the street bob, I don't like the forward contols at all, I felt like my feet were going to hit the ground going around turns.

I do like the ElectraGlide though, A big comfy bike for long days, I rented one in Vegas and the wife and I really enjoyed the time we spent on it. If I had more time to ride long distances I'd consider adding one.
