Oktoberfest in the West?

*** Due to the government shutdown, Fallen Leaf Campground is closed. I have moved my reservation to Camp Richardson itself, in the northeast corner of Badger's Den Campground, site 334.***

Does anyone else like Oktoberfest? Beer, food, cleavage...what's not to like? I thought we in the west needed a place to discuss our favorite Oktoberfest locations.

Tahoe:
October 5-6, 2013, I am going to South Lake Tahoe to check out the Camp Richardson Oktoberfest. y0y02369 told me about it, and we have both reserved camp sites at the nearby (walking distance) Fallen Leaf Campground. There are also 2 campgrounds, lodge rooms, and cabins for rent on the Camp Richardson property.

Admission is free, so that leaves more money for beer! Somewhere I read that in past years they have had both German beer and American craft beers on tap. They also have food, live music (probably oom pah pah), family friendly games, pumpkin patch, costume contest, and other things to make it a family event.

In addition, the salmon are supposed to be running in the stream next to the property.

Anybody else going?

Oktoberfest! I miss Germany.
I went a few years back to Hofbrau Haus in Las vegas it was a pretty good time. The were a couple of celebs there for the keg tapping ceremony and they seem to hire women with authentic German accessories.

I think I will try to get a ride going for this. Thanks for the idea!

I didn't even know there was a Hofbrau Haus in Vegas. I went to the original in Munich, so it would be cool to see that. Not going to make it in September, though.

Here are some other Oktoberfest events in the West:

http://www.funtober.com/oktoberfest/california/

I just realized that the Twain Harte Oktoberfest (10 minutes from my house) is happening the same dates as Tahoe. Oh well, I want to attend a different one every year, and I have already done Twain Harte. It was pretty good, with a focus on arts and crafts more so than beer. They did have about 6 German beers on tap, so it was fine. It is also in a great location for motorcycle riding.

So far, my favorite has been Cotati 2011. It was scheduled on the same day as the Petaluma Oktoberfest, which was supposed to be much bigger, so we didn't expect much. A storm forecast for the day caused Petaluma to completely cancel their event. The storm never happened, and Cotati ballooned to a big event, with an antique stein auction, Fraulein races, and some hot chick who knew how to mesmerize men with her hula-hoop skills. I ended up riding my mountain bike back to the KOA drunk, at night, and wiped out hard on the road shoulder. A good time was had by all.

I'm in!

Tahoe is my heaven for many reasons! I went to the fest last year and loved it. It wasn't anything crazy at all but it was only the first couple times they did it. They had mentioned of making bigger this year so we'll have to see what happens!

There is also a Kokane (something like that) Salmon festival which is just when literal thousands of salmon swim as far river to lay eggs. We saw that also last year and it was gorgeous to see that!

But hey... best part about tahoe, is one full day of beer , and then another day or riding the gorgeous sierras!

Great! I am in number 84 on the south end of the campground. I'll probably get in late Friday (but not too late to have a beer or two).
