2013 CJ Designs Roaming Tech Workshop plan

We have been working hard to solidify a plan for our 1st ever CJ Designs Roaming Tech Workshop in Steamboat Springs, CO.

To give you a brief overview of the events of the 2-day event:
-dates: Wed 9/11-Thurs 9/12
-location: Steamboat Springs Campground: http://www.steamboatcampground.com/
-we will be staying at the campground. I think that there are still cabins and camp spots available; please call to reserve a spot if you are camping here. If not, you're still welcome to attend the events.
-There will be various manufacturers and vendors in attendance, both with booths, product demonstrations, brief presentations/Q&A related to moto travel, packing, riding skills, tech topics, and of course, their products, and time to speak with representatives from these companies. Vendors/Manufacturers that will likely be in attendance and/or are contributing to the door prize drawing include: 3BR Powersports, Big Agnes, Butler Maps, CJ Designs, EarthX, Klim, Matthew Fehrmann Editions, Powercell Performance, Rally Moto, Superplush Suspension, Wolfman Luggage.

****Manufacturers will be showing new products, there will likely be a couple special guests in attendance, and an appearance by the CJ Designs new bike project will be on display. This will also be a great time to meet other riders and have a great time before the KTM National Rally. There will also be a door prize drawing on Thursday!

-A couple changes in previous plans: James from Superplush Suspension will not be able to attend, but he is sending 2 individuals from SPS to give a presentation about those products. EarthX will also not be able to attend, however, CJ Designs will have product information and examples on display.

-The rough outline for each day are as follows. Likely there will be some on-the-spot modifications, which we'll post in the morning:
-Wednesday, 9/11:
-9 am: welcome and overview of the day
-10-12: product presentations and Q&A (Wolfman Luggage, 3BR)
-12-1: lunch on your own; camp cooking demonstration by Matthew and Katie from CJ Designs
-1-4: product presentations and Q&A (Klim, CPR Fab, Butler Maps?)
-4-6: Craig from CJ Designs with a bike inspection and oil change demonstration
-6 and beyond: Dinner out if you'd like to join. Beer and campfires! Location: tbd

-Thursday, 9/12:
-9 am: welcome and overview of the day. Come and take a look at how we at CJ Designs pack for a trip.
-10-11: Superplush Suspension Presentation and Q&A
-11-12: CPR Fab Presentation and Q&A
-12-1: lunch on your own; camp cooking demonstration by Matthew and Katie from CJ Designs. If anyone fishes, please catch something for us to cook!
-1-4: Big Agnes will be here with product demonstrations
-1: Klim presentation
-3: Another Superplush Suspension Presentation and Q&A (in case you missed the 10 am one)
-4: Doorprize Drawing
-4-6: Early Registration at the KTM Rally
-6 and beyond: Dinner out if you'd like to join. Location tbd.

On Saturday, 9/14, Ken from Powercell Performance will be hosting a kegger at his campsite and the Steamboat Springs campground. Should prove to be lots of fun.

If you'd like to get some exercise and elevation acclimatization before the rally, you can join Katie from CJ Designs at the Neder Nederland 10K in Nederland, CO on 9/8. :)

I will be taking off tomorrow to head out west. Will hit the COBDR before the event, so I'll be not able to answer calls/emails. If you have any questions, you can contact Katie at CJ Designs: Katie@cjdesignsllc.com.
Looking forward to seeing you in Steamboat!
CJ

The weather report for Steamboat Springs looks like rain showers and thunderstorms the next 10 days! For the local guys, what does this mean for the COBDR? electrifying? Blizzards? Mud? or it's the best time to be at 12,000 + feet?

Knobby, this is why they call it an "adventure."

As long as the snow doesn't get too deep I'll be OK.

I don't put any stock in weather forecasts more than 24 hours out - and in the mountains even that can really be off. If the forecast says rain the night before you leave for the trip, then you may want to worry more about it. This far out? It might be sunny and 90 degrees by then.

Well CJ beat me by a day or two, but KnobbyJoe, Penguin74Q and I are hitting the trail tomorrow morning. 10 days should be plenty of time to get to the event, but I also broke my arm last week so we may be taking it slow.

See you all in CO.!

Brent

Right on, happy trails!

I'm not leaving until next Sun., going to swing north up to the Badlands NP and see Mt. Rushmore on my way, then head SW to Steamboat. This will be my longest ride-vaca ever (never been able to do more than a week before)- eleven days on the road for me, woohoo! (Don't poke fun, you real-LD/IBR/oldtimer/ADV'ers, I still have bills to pay... ) Looking forward to meeting everyone and learning a ton!!!

Plans solidified.....the wife and I are coming......2-up on the 950ADV.

Unfortunately, we are short-timers, arriving on Saturday and departing on Sunday.

Hope to meet as many of you as I can.

No more repairs. No more field testing. No more packing. She's ready.

Trailering to Golden on Wednesday, riding from there to Mesa Verde on Thursday, exploring on Friday, and starting the BDR from Four Corners on Saturday.

As Colonel Hannibal would say, "I love it when a plan comes together."

Hey me too! I am leaving MPLS on Sunday and heading to the black hills. I want to go to Devils Tower and then work my way down to Steamboat by Tuesday night

Hope to run into fellow inmates on the way
