Ive also devised a new route to try for a marathon dual sport day,Chico to Humbug summit, then pavemento to Taylorsville, then figure the dirt route from there to Doyle on hiway 395,then dirt/gravel to Gerlach for Bruno's homemade Raviolis then home again.

It would be maybe more then an all day thrash.

My DR would do it as well as anything.

Somewhat short notice by I'm going to do an overnighter on Friday, one last blast out of the valley before I'm stuck for 6+ weeks due to harvest. And yes Hop-Sing the tent is going, and the sleeping bag.

Leaving work early and thinking of riding out of Corning by 2:00p.m. or earlier and either going up to Anthony Peak for the night, get up in the morning and riding around until early Saturday afternoon and then home. Hopefully return home without any Bow hunters arrows embedded in me or the bike...

Or if someone has a good trip up to/around Lake Almanor, that would be good as well, still need to take my bike down the Feather River canyon. Up for almost anything other than spending 2 hours on the I5...

Still have my "streetish supermoto" tires on the bike so if there are plenty of rocks let me know and I'll swap to knobbies.

If anybody is interested in going, let me know.

Oh yea, and for today: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=897WjTBePik

Sorry for the large pictures but the small one's do not do this place justice.
Second picture is of sunrise this morning, and yea the point of the shadow is where I was standing, the Lookout on top of Anthony Peak.
Got up to the lookout at 4:15p.m., just in time to spend about an hour b.s.ing with the lookout, interesting guy, first time I had been in a lookout.
Spent the night a little downslope (incase of wind or lightning, yea I'm a sissyboy). Beautiful sunset last night:

Simple and neat inside:

Fun, easy overnight trip, 60 miles from my house to the top of the world and the middle of the forest.

Nice, I really enjoy visiting lookouts.

Good weekend for and overnighter. I spent all day today getting my bike back on the road after having a cracked case repaired and servicing the rear swing arm/suspension. Tommorow will be a short test ride to make sure everything is good then install the skid plate. I'll be ready for some more thrashing.

Finally made it up to your neck of the woods-the High Lakes OHV area last week, before the big weekend. Had the whole place to myself. Perfect conditions, a little warm down low.

CAMPBELL LAKE AND LONG LAKE

2 days-380 miles, mostly dirt. GPX LINKY

GREAT 2 DAY LOOP!

CAMPED AT LONG LAKE, AT THE SPILLWAY

Here's the complete ride report...

That looks like a great ride. I have been looking for a good overnight ride. Do you think a KLR could do that route?
Oh and that was a great video.

I was wondering the same thing along this route (I have an '06 KLR)...Here's what I would suggest. Haul ass up to Philbrook Resv from Sterling City, then cruise up Philbrook Rd(25N05?) to the PCT near Lotts Lake (mostly private land). This is the North entry to the High Lakes OHV area. There is a good camp site right there. From here you could poke your nose into the High Lakes OHV area and decide for yourself.

I think inside the High Lakes OHV area it's too rocky to be much fun on a KLR, I was sweating during some sections on the KTM 350.

The next day, from the N. end campsite, go back to Philbrook resv. and take Humbug Road to Almanor -excellent, scenic KLR country.

Then work your way down to Johnsville and take the Johnsville McRae rd. (28 miles dirt) to LaPorte (or LaPorte to Johnsville).

JOHNSVILLE McRAE RD.

Long lake at the spillway, would be a challenge on the KLR.

Been over a lot of the route...

High Lakes is doable on a KLR, been over it several times.

One of my favorite rides in the area.

The High Lakes access from the Tobin switchbacks is an interesting way to get up there, many switchbacks and quick gain in altitude.

I havent done it in a while.
