Colorado Recommended Camping Sites

I am looking for off the beaten path, and scenic.

Preferably not at any campsites with RV's and the like.

I am heading from:

SLC to Meeker, CO

Anything around Meeker?
Anything around Arapaho?

my route is currently
Meeker, Co to Loveland Pass to Berthoud Pass to camping somewhere around Grand Lake

Grand Lake to iceberg pass to cedar cove to Denver

Denver to Manitou Springs to Pikes Peak to someplace west and more camping. Anywhere is on the radar.

Meeker to Yampa Colorado, head up the White River on the Flat Tops Scenic bye way. Ripple Creek Pass, Dunkley Pass lots of primitive places.
Sheriff Res. a nice area. 40 8'55.40"N 107 8'19.28"W

In Dinosaur National Monument. Yes it's a campground but, it's remote and you just may have the place to yourself.

If you can get your bike up the FS roads outside of Grand Lake there's plenty of primitive camp sites to be had, with great views.

Most of the best campsites I've found are not easy to access and have no toilets or showers near by but have epic views. Check out any of the MVUM maps from the National Forest Service, all of the dots along side the "roads" are campsites, generally nothing more than a flat spot with a fire ring, but some have really great views.

This is a good example. (this is not Grand Lake, just somewhere in Boulder Co).

I was just in Minneapolis on business; cool place.

The only way to find a place off the beaten path is luck, or look at a map and guess. Really. I've rarely had good luck being in solitude with places people have suggested. They wouldn't be quiet if everyone posted them online, would they? The National Forest Service Maps and USGS maps can be had for free, and they are pretty good.

Do stay away from the I-70 corridor anywhere east of Eagle or Vail. You can't get far enough away from I-70 to get alone. Pick the crappiest looking road and ride until you can't. Then you might be alone!

Have a great trip!
