Caliente, Panaca, Pioche Nevada ride Oct 2013

I'm in the early stages of putting to together a multi day ride this October in Central Nevada. Camping , moteling, or both. Explore mine ruins, ghost towns, find singletrack. Routes will be mostly 2 track, washes, etc so I can cover alot of ground. Will be riding singletrack out there but wont put the ride focus on that. Some of the riding will be on the Silver State Trail.

Street plated mid size bike ride for experienced well prepared desert dudes. Date isn't set yet but it will be before daylight savings ends.

Any interested folks chime in and I'll keep you in the loop as this ride gathers momentum.

Glenn

I have done some riding out of Caliente on the Silver State Trail.

Might be interested in this ride.

I will keep an eye on this thread.

Only one little trip out there for me. Great riding spot. State campground south of town is nice--showers there even. Delamar is my favorite NV ghost town and I've seen a bunch of 'em. There is a good loop east of the hwy up to Pioche. I didn't have time but there must be a more dirt oriented way back south on the west side of the hwy. Good stuff south and east of Caliente--right in town east then over the mountains and down Pennsylvania Canyon then west and north to Delamar makes a good one day loop. The little bit of the Silver State trail I saw were jeep road/quad kinda stuff--nothing too exciting for bikes IMO--but that was just the part west of Caliente and just north of the Hwy. Other parts may be more interesting.

Might have time to join you if you can accomodate an old slow guy on a 300 KTM.

Have fun!!

I've ridden the area before, but not for a few years. Back when I was racing did a 170 mile point to point Hare and Hound Starting in Pioche and finishing in Caliente, Danny Hamel won the overall at that one. Lots of spectacular riding just have to snoop it out. I'm sort of gimped now so don't want to get too crazy with the technical stuff.

Silverstate trail will be a small part of the riding. I'm more the explorer type....

The last two trips I organized to the area all my buds went but I missed. Got hurt a couple weeks before each of the two trips! Fuck! On the last trip it was a three day guided tour with David Pearson who has lived in the Panaca area all his life.

For Moteling in Caliente The Shady Motel is best and its right across the street from the Brandin Iron Restaurant.

Waiting on the date. I have ridden that area a lot. It is one of my favorite areas. A lot of wood cutter trails and single track. The weather should be low 70s to mid 60s, perfect weather.

Been looking at that area for a possible Oct excursion too. Interested what you come up with. Got any GPS files to share?

I'd been watching this thread a while ago to see if I might be able to fit a ride in during that time.

I did ride the GNATSASS event that was in the Pioche area last weekend. Have some good GPS tracks if anyone wants them. Some great riding in that area. I'll be looking forward to riding more in that area in the next couple of months.
