Alpine Way Closed. Again.

The Alpine Way is closed between Thredbo and Khancoban due to a rockfall. Not sure when it will be open again.

G'day Woody,
Do you think the Alpine way will be open by the Snowy ride weekend? (3,4,5, of November)

Cheers
Bob

I'd say so Bob, I'll ask around and see what the word is.

The Khancoban to Cabramurra road is now open. This road is normally closed until the October long weekend but they have opened it early because of the Alpine Way closure, and because it has been such a shit snow season they can.

Kanchoban to Jindabyne would be one of the states most expensive roads to have been built and maintained.
The work done to the road through the Thredbo village after the landslide several years ago would have cost a shite load.

Keep on spending money on it!!!
I'm dreaming of a nice new hotmix asphalt surface all the way along it.

I'm dreaming of white lines to help the wallies remember which side is theirs Realistic speed limits would be handy too.

Ooh no! No white lines!
There is only one lane, the whole road.

Speed limit? What speed limit?

Only helps a few. You see so many motoring showes where they show cars they are testing going over unbroken lines.. (top gear, 5th gear, dream car garage etc) reflects community attitudes - white lines are only where you have to be on your side of the road .. oncoming motorcycles don't matter. The manufactures adds don't seam to show that crossing of the center line.. may be they think it would be a bad reflection on the cars handling?

I came through on 15/9. The servo at Kanchoban advised that the road had been closed, was open for the weekend and then would re-close Monday. It's a big slide, when i went through, they were still at least 2m off reaching to road surface again. They'd dug off the top of the landslide to allow traffic to get through but I can see that they'd need to close the road to dig the rest off.

Planning a ride up the hills tomorrow. 09/10/13.
Can anyone tell me what is the status of these roads?

I am on my roadbike, so don't want to get turned around at the Nat Parks gates. (for no chains, or road closures)

Alpine way: Jindy- Thredbo-Khancoban

Tooma Road: Khancoban - Cabramurra

Elliot way: Cabramurra - Tumbarumba

thanks
Dobbo
