You can follow each days riding.
As you look at it you will notice we varied from the route several times--most torrential rain related.

Do not try to go to waypoint "CampDay02"---that property is in ownership limbo.

Please wait to ask questions about why we went where we did---and why did we get off route until the story gets to that day.
It will probably be explained without asking when the story gets that far along.

Also------------at the end of each days ride-------I will post a map of the route.

More Day 1

Riding thru the Valley Of The Gods is very easy riding-----I think you could get a motorhome thru there.

I was hiding behind this rock and jump out in front of Bill and went ----BOOoooooooo!

He ain't skeert !!!

The Valley of The Gods road popped out just below what is called the "Moki Dugway".
A mind boggling set of switchbacks that climb out of the basin you see below.

I've been told that there was no way the state was going to build a road off the top of the mesa down into Mexican Hat.
But a mine operation provided the means to do just that. It's about a thousand feet of elevation difference.

It was only a month before we left to do this trip when I was using google earth and found "Muley Point"
Right at the top of the Dugway is a 5 mile long dirt road that leads you out to it.
I had so hoped to end up here a few hours before nightfall---and it worked out perfect.

This was the only day---I tried to make a destination-----as I knew this place was going to be special.

If your bike weighs more than 400lbs. You might not make it.

More Day2---Camping at Muley Point

It is primitive camping only and we camped right on the edge----not a good idea to roam around in the dark here.
I thought about that when I went out to pee at night
It was a perfect evening-------the temps were just right for camping and there was no wind.

We all cooked a nice meal with our Jetboils stoves----it was hard to take your eyes off the view here.

You couldn't wipe the smile off of Bud's face with a pitch fork.
Bud was a very good rider---and very good company---but he had never done a ride of this magnitude ever----in the manner we did it------he was a happy man---the oldest of the group--but it never showed.
Good to have someone older than me----I get tired of being "that guy".

I think I heard this guy say something like .......................................
WaaaaaaaaaaaaaHoooooooo!!!!!!!!!

That's Navajo for "Awesome Dude"
Want some peanuts ?????

I'll shut up as the sun sets.

A map of our route today---about 217 Miles

Hey Little Wan---tell the big guy that BigDog and Friends said hi.
I feel like such a riding woosie----after reading your guys stuff.

I'm not handy with the videos like you Wan---but I've got one coming up what will tickle your belly.
I had to pause it 8 times when my wife watched it as her gut was killing her.

Suscribed.

I was supposed to do the COBDR and UTBDR starting last week, but I was doing them alone and the rain made me cancel.

Instead I will enjoy your RR and pics and get ready for my next attempt which will be in May 2014

Thanks for posting!

In and subscribed on day #1!
That first night's campsite is going to be tough to beat.
Hmm, we've been looking for a way to link up the Colo and UT BCDRs..
Just curious, could this trip be covered in 8 days? (I know, I should take more time, but I don't have any.)

Thanks for posting Mark, nothing like another Big Dog RR!

BigDog, your tracks loaded in my basecamp perfectly. I must be getting better at it. I followed them out through day 3. I think this might be one of your best! I'm going to wait and let you catch up so I don't spoil the story for me. I am interested in pictures of the trail after looking at the tracks and maps. I'll likely be solo for some of it.

Your pictures are awesome! I've been down the Mokee Dugway, but I never knew about Muley Point. Dang! ...and no wind. Very special for your gang.

Thanks again. Your trips are always a great inspiration for me. I bought your bike and trimmed it out as you suggested. I parked it out west and now I am riding your tracks. I even scouted some of the GWT around Phoenix. Some of that was not big bike friendly, but plenty of go-arounds. -P

Yes that campsite was awesome------I don't think the BDR boys knew about that place----they didn't route it to it anyway.
I found it poking around on google earth----and went "Holy Sheet"----I don't want to just go there---I want to camp there and soak it all in.
Reminded me of Toroweap on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

No---not in 8 days------------unless your were flying----and nothing ever happened-----and lots of stuff will. You'd be way better off relaxing---slowing down and doing one state in 8 days. You'll just get your panty's in a wad trying to do it in 8---that's all you'll be thinking about----getting it done.
Linking the routes together at the bottom is a day---and linking them together at the top is at least 2 days. So there is 3 days shot.--------well not shot.

Attempted that on a rainy (muddy) evening last May with a 24' Sprinter 3500 - Navion. Got as far as the Moki and turned back and we camped. Beautiful place rain or shine!

Hi Bryan,
It just wasn't that bad for us---but we ran into riders who were whipped and had tore up bikes that warned us not to go in certain places----and we didn't.

My wife was watching the weather and was freaking out. But she's good at that.

One quote I'll remember from one very experienced rider we ran into on a 990 after wrestling their bikes thru miles of mud---picking them up now and then---------------he said "I got nothing left"-------"I'd recommend you turn around"---and we did.
