anyone work at a ktm dealer? question about 990...

to those that work at ktm dealers or have seen 990's in the crate(specifically 12' or 13'), do they come with the crash bars installed? or is this a dealer installed item?

from the research i have done, the crash bars are NOT installed, and are placed on the bike after uncrating. is this correct?

*reason i ask is regarding a warranty issue for a fellow inmate, thanks.*

They put them on at the dealer. Mine was kind enough to smash the 02 wires when they did. Retuned it and just turned them off. (I don't work at one, but saw a new baja in the crate)

Depends on package

The baja has them, so they are part of the set up. Others are 'aftermarket' so they only go on if the the customer buys them.

FWIW, many think the crash bars are over rated since they are a PITA for maintenance, and the bike naps well enough in native form.

EXACTLY the problem. dealer is saying that the inmate f'd up the wiring. sad. you know setup went to the cheapest paid guy on the team, and he slammed the bike together and pinched the wires.

incorrect. the 12' had them as standard. 11' an previous, the bars were hard parts.

Not on the bike

They are NOT installed. They are boxed up in the crate & the dealer puts them on.

I was Service Manager at a KTM shop before I returned to Land Surveying. Best of both worlds now- I don't have to wrench on other peoples bikes any more (more fun to ride 'em) & half the jobs I can carry my equipment on the 950 & ride it into the woods to work!
