Even took the wife and child back today. We had lunch at Mustache Bills and went to the light house again as well. I climbed those 217 steps two days in a row, and with a child n my arms today. I am glutton punishment.

Very nice Doug.
It was a very nice trip.

I still need to get my pictures together.
I have been out all day today.
Just got home.

Perhaps tomorrow I can get them posted.

Good to see you out with the family.

BTW..I forgot to mention that I wish I had brought my bicycle shorts to wear under my jeans. I was a tad sore by the time I got home. Not huge mileage, but my total for the day was about 175 miles. 42 to Buena Wawa, 100 miles by the time we got gas at that Shell, and 33 miles home from there.

Pictures from our ride September 21, 2013.

Started out with a group of all ADV riders !

One more showed up just after I took the picture !

Nice ride on some back roads.

Road past the Mullica River at Crowleys Landing.

First stop was Harvey Cedars Bible Conference on Long Beach Island.

The back side of their property overlooks the bay.

We wondered who lived out there on the marsh !

It was a beautiful day.

The Group.

Then a short ride down to Barnegat Lighthouse.

Lots of people still using their boats.

Turns out that the creator of this lighthouse was a General in the Union Army!

Union General George Gordon Meade who commanded the Army of the Potomac and was the commanding officer who "beat" Robert E. Lee at Gettysburg.

Only 217 steps !

Why not?

Start here.

On the way up they have alcoves at the windows and a small room above the
entrance where they post pictures and information about the lighthouse.

The small room.

Looks like it use to attach to the light keepers house at one time.

Which is no longer there of course.

This shows how the barrier islands have changed over the years.

Beach erosion.

Back to the exercise room !

Almost to the top !

At the top of the yellow spiral stair case you come to a room that supports the light.
The stairs in the back go up to the light, but those are closed.

The door to the observation platform.

Looking back at the base of the light.

Looking south on LBI.
We came in about 6 miles thataway, but the bridge can not be seen in the picture.

Looking east.

Looking north.
This is the island that Seaside Heights is on, but not able to be seen in the picture.

I look down and see one of our bikes missing next to the red pickup truck at the bottom !!!

Then I notice the owner moved it and was taking pictures of his bike and the lighthouse !
Phewww!

All I know is he could not ride back with me, I already had a passenger !

He is the guy in the orange shirt at the bottom.

Gotta have a picture looking down !

The guy in the orange shirt moved !

We took a walk out onto the jetty.
They have a nice walkway, which you can see in the picture above,
and you can see the whole thing in the picture facing east above.

Then off to lunch about 5 blocks away.

Mustache Bills.
Been here for over 50 years.

Even Guy Fieri has been here !

I went in to give them our name and the place looked tiny.

When they brought us in they have a room off on one side which can fit a lot more.

After lunch we headed home.
And none of us got wet.

On our ride down here we road through a few places where it looked like it had rained before we got there, but nothing serious.

We had a nice beautiful day.

Thank you for sharing bomber1965.

On one stop the kid looks at you, then the camera, then back to you and then the camera again with a look of puzzlement !

The guy on top with the Pokemon Napsack looking around while his daughter is blowing away in the wind !

And you climbed the whole lighthouse without stopping.
You must be in good shape.

Delaware Water Gap

This will be a bit longer ride.

265 mile round trip.

Ride time says 6 1/2 hours !

The plan is to ride up 54 to 206 to 29 and cross over into Pennsylvania on the free bridge.

Ride up the PA side on Routes 32 & 611.

We will stop at Washington Crossing, PA around 10:30 to use the facilities and look around if anyone wants too.
Then keep heading north along the Delaware River as much as possible.

Next stop is for lunch at 12:00 in Portland, PA at O'Neill's Place just opposite a pedestrian bridge that crosses the Delaware River.
The pedestrian bridge offers some great views of where we are headed so we can do that and look around at some stores in Portland.

After lunch we continue just a bit further north to an overlook at the Gap.
Then catch the Interstate 80 bridge back into New Jersey, NO TOLL this way.

Stop at the visitor center at the Gap.

A short distance south in NJ we will stop for gas at a truck stop.
Then continue heading south along the Delaware River on the NJ side.

We will probably need one more stop on the way home,
so we can stop at Washington Crossing on the NJ side.

Then after that it is head even further south for home.

Hopefully the trees will be in their Fall Colors.

Usual start time of 8:30.
Which is the time we actually need to leave 8:30.

We should be back in Buena at around 6:00PM.

Anyone planning on joining us tomrrow?

Or are you going to surprise me?

We should be at Washington Crossing, PA visitor center around 10:30.
And at lunch at noon at O'Neill's Place in Portland, PA.

I am looking forward to another nice ride.
And hopefully we will see some fall foliage that I missed last weekend.

Sorry to take so long.

BUT, it has only been just over a month ago !

Started out as usual from Buena and had a pretty much non-stop run up Route 54 until we got to Hammonton.

Shocking that when we got onto Route 206 we did not get stuck at another light until we got up to Bordentown !

I was so amazed.
And of course we made good time.

We got up to Trenton and crossed the Trenton Makes Bridge into Pennsylvania.
Then up Route 32 to Washington Crossing, PA.

This was the same route we took to get to Bucks County back in August.

However, on this ride we continued along Route 32 to Route 611 and kept heading north along the Delaware River.

We road some nice roads and saw some great views.
My passenger did not have the camera on this part of the trip, so sorry, no pictures.

Until we got to our lunch stop in Portland, PA.

Yes, it does not look like much, but there is not much else around either.

It was a nice place and the food was good.

We parked down there.

The inside was mostly a bar with some booths along two walls.

But then again, every other place I could find around here had the same set up.

After lunch we toured the town.

OK, that was it !

There is a pedestrian bridge going across the Delaware River into Columbia, NJ, so we stepped out there to get a view of where we were going.

The Delaware Water Gap.
PA on the left, NJ on the right.

Someone had a good seat to just sit and relax in.

I have no idea !

After lunch we head north just a little ways to the Delaware Water Gap.

This is the first scenic overlook we came to.

It was a very nice day.
And a beautiful ride.

The second scenic overlook on the PA side.
That is the NJ side of the gap in the background.

This is the PA side as it comes down toward the river below.

A little bit more north.

And then we crossed the Delaware River and start heading south back through the GAP.

We stopped for some gas and head back down the New Jersey side and stay as close to the Delaware River as possible.

Yes, this is New Jersey.

A triple lime kiln in Carpentersville, NJ.

Our next pit stop was at Bull Island just north of Stockton.

The feeder canal for the Delaware and Raritan Canal starts here.

We crossed the canal to get to the necessary rooms.

There is also a pedestrian bridge here going over into PA.

I was surprised to see a kayak on the base.
There were people down there fishing.

And the Black Bass Hotel that we passed earlier in the day going north.

Looking north where we came from.

Looking down where we are headed, with NJ on the left, and PA on the right of course.

And that was our trip for October 2013.

After we continue riding south for home of course !
We were still a good distance away from home at this point.
