The island where Frogtown, River and Feltner roads meet. Berryville

We picked up a couple hitch hikers along the way...

Blue Duck is under some leaves between the 2 stumps over my left mirror...

Hint... didn't see any capon or springs anywhere on this road.

You did good! Did you ride in from the West, past the resort? Its a pretty cool place!

Grab, Capon Springs Road at the State line. Sign on the left, Igor on the top case and the stump on the right...

While out and about I stopped in the see the USA Tor mascot, Nutzy!

One of you FF's should go grab it! I don't have the time to move it like it should be moved.

New tag in a few...

I didn't come in from the west but the road looked pretty interesting and would like to get back over there some time.

But first a word from out sponsors...

I've always wanted to go see the spot where the Lost River goes underground.
I stopped upstream at a spot I've always liked to view the stream from. From this vantage point, the "Lost" is flowing away in this picture and has the feeling of flowing off into the wilderness.

Except it doesn't. It cuts around a small ridge only to come right back to the road. Only now, there is no water in the stream bed.
So, while out and about I also stopped at the old Rt 55 bridge over the Lost River. I walked upstream for about 300' then went down to the river.
Looking downstream...

and upstream...

At a dry river bed.

A little further upstream looking back. Igors such a ham.

and upstream...

A little further...

From that vantage point it looks like this area would be a 8'-15' deep pool in higher water. I'd be about chest deep.

180

Someone had built a cairn. Igor hamming it up again...

and finally, the spot where the river goes underground!

But first, follow me upstream so you can really get a feel for what is going on here. Here you see a nice little stream flowing from right to left. Looks like its going over what would be a little rapid with a lot more water.

Notice the sheer cliff in the background. Its about 45' high. Very pretty spot here!
So we walk back down and take a closer look and...

from right to left, the river slithers underground. Scared Igor. He wouldn't take a dip in the last pool...even for the camera!
If you decide to go, its a short hike..100yards tops. There are no, "no trespassing" signs but be respectful none the less. Park on the SE side of the bridge. You can back the bike down what looks like a trail and into some brush to hide it from the road. There is sort of a trail on the East side of the river for about a third of the way. The rest is rock hopping in the river bed.
I've seen where it comes back into the river...close to three miles downstream, and under a large mountain ridge! It flows out from underneath the bank with a lot of force when the water is high!

Almost forgot. I saw two Pileated woodpecker's while walking back to the bike. I think they were living in this dead tree...

Now, the new tag!

Igor at the base of the bush with the knarled trunk...

Covered with two rocks...

The bike in the foreground. Its the bush above the top case...

Pay attention to the rock formation in that pic. Its a sure thing to distinguish the spot as all the bushes have been cut along here.

A panorama view...

Notice where the bike is parked in the pull off so you can find the correct bush.

This is the only pull off on this Street. The Street is named for what the creek is lacking to sufficiently float a boat on it. The last bridge for this creek to flow under is just around the bend you see in the background.
700 series road number equals 13.

Happy duck hunting!

They look like a Pileated Woodpecker to me. They make a cool almost machine sound when they hammer away on some thing.
