2013 ktm rally @ steamboat springs

friday morning decision...which group ride?

route #1

route #2

route #3

well, it will be a privilege to meet and ride with any of the ride leaders - kurt casseli, paul krause, mike brown and andrew short.

made a connection

kurt likes my camera

fellow riders

we were rolling

scenic backroad

there were about 20+ riders and we have to regroup

up front our leader

tourist meets the pros

finally.......dirt......wohooo

i am getting spoiled in having an official ktm sweep....hahaha

kurt was wondering how i got in front of them???

i can't resist getting one for myself

much needed break

on open roads, hard to keep up with the big bikes

we have to slow down when seeing homes

after 97 miles, back where we started...just a little muddy

2013 ktm rally

saturday morning gathering, paul krause's ride @ 150 miles, route #2

paul on the new 1190

the other kurt (have to take care of bdc) wishing he could ride with us

our saturday group is much mellower than the day before

started easy

the smallest bike in the group and a shameless post

paul krause in the ktm adv outfit facing camera

lots of big ktms

at this elevation, glad to have FI on the 350

mike and jeremy from the bay area doing their own exploring

that bike with slicks is a multi strada - alex from greece

2up in our group. the rider is chris, and he can ride.

and they were on a street bike

taking a break

the sky is always threatening, but never came down on us

glad to see c-dub after he left socal

closer look of the duc multi

another female rider on a 990

closing down on me

i could hear the beautiful sound of the akra as he passed me. this rider is dressed to the true ktm fashion

wot and still i felt like standing still....hahaha

i don't know how this bike got admitted in the rally....hahaha, just joking alex.

blurry

better focus here

these ladies taking a break from their big KTMs

paul krause and his riders

as we get deeper in the woods, more mud

ron lawson (dirtbike editor) helping a rider down. i think he was hurt but able to ride back to town.

no problem for alex

once we got to the open, nice riding and awesome landscape

check out the end of that road

pretty much dry here except for that little puddle

still, the forest able to bite one of us for the last time

heading back to steamboat to catch the 6pm dinner and award activities....hahaha, i can't wait.

once we're on the tarmac, everyone's gone but me.

saturday dinner atop this hill

the view

as far as i remember, we rode over or behind that mountain range

super nice guy from canada in the norton shirt. he rode on to ca on hw395.

ramjet showing his awesome tee. shameful plug of the DVNR, mark your march 1014 calendar

a meal befitting a tourist

and of course, you guys already know the rest of the story

yeah, and the tourist aside from the award, received these........thank you ktm and giant loop

more pics here @ ride report at orange crush

hot season finally over

october 12, 2013 desert ride

socal had been hot in the last 4 months, too hot to go riding in the desert.

finally, the temperature dropped below 90 which means the desert riding season is now officially on.

another california gold is the area near mojave, california city, randsburg and kramer junction. pretty much a wide open area...lots of dirt and sand.

this 80 mile loop is east of california city and south of ridgecrest

we staged at borax bill park and rode to randsburg. paul and i had little knowledge of the area and glad to have klammer to lead the ride

no pics of the morning ride....my camera suffered from operator error

our first stop is here at atolia. pics from previous trip.

we were on time for lunch at the general store in randsburg

need to sample it before i can say good cheeseburger

this town seriously caters to off road enthusiast. unplated bikes and quads can ride into town, such as, providing convenient parking

short hop on the 395 highway. so nice and so empty....me like

then on to the nearby trail, but got to look first for oncoming vehicles

deciding to do husky monument or just play in cuddyback dry lake bed

cuddyback it is. save husky for the next ride

klammer and loner

the tourist

the weather was very nice and not surprised to see more people coming out

the rain we had a few days ago made the traction on the lake bed nice

paul got his camera ready for someone to pop big wheelies....hahaha...wait for his post

big helmet

there are other riders who want to play

tasty graphics

damnnnnn.....there's klammer and loner

paul left me a nice line to follow, which one is klammer

i think the PPs finally got bored or conserving gas

the sun is coming down fast and we turned west back to the staging area

rode across another lake bed and no more time to mess around. can you spot the 2 riders

atop a hill and checking our bearing. we need to get behind that hill and my gps indicates we're 7 miles away.

having the waypoint, i get to lead

took them into this sandwash for a little detour

no problem since it was medium packed

we made it to the trucks before 4 pm. enough time for the drive home in daylight and grab dinner along the way.

it was a beautiful day. my first outing in the desert after that long hot summer.

thanks you paul and rich for the company cuz i don't think i will ever ride in the desert alone......

Cal City to Randsburg

My first ADV ride in a long time, thanks to Joel, and Rich for hitting a good assortment of trails out of Cal City.

Klammer ready to lead...

We made our way to Atolia first...

Rich checking out the pit

We decide to head into Randsburg for lunch

After lunch we head to the dry lake. I was supposed to get some shots of Joel doing wheelies, but my camera was too slow to get the action shot.

Next time Joel.

I also met Isaac at the Sand Canyon meeting area, sorry about the change in plans, hope to ride with you next time.

Great to be back in the dirt...

i think you and i just did. oh, timmy was there too.

mike brown #3, taddy #2 and others meeting the fans

ride on KC, we'll miss you. post up your feelings here

mike brown who was KC baja team mate got emotional at this point

helmet on, both mike and taddy will be competing for the 2013 championship

david knight in one of his few appearances

taddy #1 and cody webb #2

taddy made this pass for the win

tough going for this rider

the winner of the final race...cody webb

2013 the endurocross champion...taddy

Blazusiak finished the season with 146 points to take the title. Brown was four points back with 142 and Webb was another seven back with 135.

again, enjoyed the race. this was my 3rd time to the games. not as exciting and high speed as the SX but definitely a bit more technical and somehow aligned to adventure riding.

2013.11.15 Red Rock LV

after getting some inspirations from the night before, the 3 of us (tim, lior and myself) geared up the next morning.

a little hooliganism to start the ride

tim leading and riding to the outskirts of las vegas

it had been raining in the last 2 days, but today is a good one

tim taking us to one of his secret dirt roads

to a lookout with fantastic view of the valley and vegas in the background

view without PPs

lots of fresh snow from the recent storm

oh yeah, las vegas porn...

going back down

couple of beautiful wild horses

lior passing me on 5th gear.......i suck..

i don't know exactly where we are

same here

by the looks of this, we're heading towards the dark clouds...

our fearless leader assured us there will be no problem

as long we stayed along the powerlines, it should be easy to get help

tim's bike having starting issue...haha. if you're with lior, everything can be fixed.

those clouds got me concerned

no dust to glory ride (later you'll see)...

we stopped at this pizza joint for a quick bike fix (lior gave tim a spare battery) and lunch

the food was very good
