Ya, I drove by there Sunday. There were lots of cars.

My thing was like they closed indian creek campground and there is never anyone there anyway. I guess if they don't know how long before they open the toilets might get full and the money box might get to full?

The private campgrounds are making bank. Which I am all for! They are usually cleaner anyway.

That is pretty crazy. I have done sections of the PCT. It would suck big time with that much commitment.

Really when your out there the government is the last thing I would be thinking about.

Yea, that pile of shit is releasing taxable emissions. Unless you recycle it into biofuel. Do you recycle?

You forget the toilet paper count that has to be reported based on projected use versus actual usage.

So, how much is it saving the Government to have rangers stand around and be dicks to the public, vs. having the same number of rangers selling tickets and doing business as usual?

Oh sure now you want them to think logically? Really? It's politicians they can't do that... it doesn't benifit them.

Here is an article in the Idaho Statesman regarding what is closed. They have a FWS LEO patrolling the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge looking for violators now. I have lived near Lake Lowell and hunted and hiked out there for over three years now and have never seen a LEO out there. Why should that change now just because it the government is shutdown?

Me neither!

What chaps my ass about this, mainly (we haven't got all day for me to rant) are two things.
A) All the 'furloughed' employees will receive back pay when they go back to work.
B) For being broke, the .gov is spending a lot of money on fines and closure enforcement.

But Jeebus Crise, 'closing' the PCT?!?!? WTF, are there normally rangers out sweeping pine cones off the trail and picking up bear poop? Do they turn the trees off when they are out of money? After hiking XXX miles, I wouldn't let Mr Ranger stop me. It's the woods- just detour around him, out of sight. Continue on your way.
And putting up barricades to stop WWII veterans from visiting their memorial? FFS, with what we owe these men, that's beyond reprehensible. Many of them will not live to revisit it.

Our politicians are beyond shame. As some author said, "We're at the awkward stage. Too late to vote 'em all out, and too early to start shooting the bastards."
