I believe, from reading your writing, that you have never been on and couldn't start, a 500cc 2T. I'd bet on it.

This makes your point moot bro. Give it a rest.

The minicycle forum is on another page.

Take a look at the times posted in the various classes at the recent ISDE, and see if they support your bigger is better BS...............

I keep telling you to pay attention. Nowhere have I said bigger is best. Simply (for your benefit) that it is possible to ride a big bike fast in the woods with the addition its my preference. You do your best to put words in peoples mouths. And your best isn't good enough.

Being from the UK you wouldn't know a tight woods single track from a high desert single track. And either one would stifle you meager abilities if you even ride a motorcycle. Come to the US and I'll feed and house you so you can see what real off road is. But be sure to purchase insurance 'cause we have a pay as you go system. And I'll do my best to make sure you see it from the inside.

And thanks for reinforcing my point you can be played like a cheap uke.

Ohhhh...I get it. Chatsworth (and the like) used to be good places to ride. Recently I have heard not so good things though.

You idiot, the DT is a Kawasaki, and Kawasaki have Posi-force lubrication not autolube...

But if you want to see a thread that will give you callouses on your forehead from constantly slapping it, I stumbled on this old TT thread a while ago while looking something up (remember it is an old thread so I wouldn't reply to it) http://www.thumpertalk.com/topic/593638-twofour-stroke/

New chain and sprockets. 14/52 should be a real tractor. But really not that crazy, when you consider that some WR500 came stock with 14/50 and a lower first gear. I need a better tire for the mud. What would be a good tire for a YZ490 woods bike? It gets pretty slick here. And we have a lot of clay that really gums a tire up. I can't wait for more rain!

i've heard at least one guy say "the whole motor has to be changed" or something along those lines, to make it a good trail/woods bike. Gorr's head mod and minor port work is just that, minor... but HOT DAMN what a change in the bike.

(going back to craigslist, looking for another 490 now)
What year YZ490 are you looking for? I have to stop looking. I'm going to keep my YZ465 and 82YZ490, but once they are sorted out. I'll be looking for a newer 5 speed yz490 and maybe a IT465, to add.

this has turned into an interesting thread

I've been searching on and off for several years for a nice IT490, which I'm sure would be a much better starting point than the YZ490 for a woods bike - but I've no doubt the YZ can be made to work well too.
I like the idea of the IT's lighting coil, as it's still easy here to plate a 2T dirtbike if you have a head/taillight.

I had a bead on a beauty in central CA a couple of years ago, but at the same time saw a 380 EXC closer for the same money....and went that way.
Still wished I'd gone with the IT490 - but hindsight is 20-20.

Whenever a decent WR500 comes up, I have to go take a look.
