OilLyba organisation have him higher seeded than Caselli and Barreda, not to mention Verhoeven, Grabham, Pain, Duclos and Pizzolito

- that is unless they are not on the FIM priority drivers list, have no results in the 2013 world cup, or from last years rally where Barreda came 2nd

Race on tomorrow, so enough of the consipracy theories - best man and bike to win hopefully

Newsletter 12th October 2013

A record number of Participants in the OiLybia Rally of Morocco

The 2013 edition of the OiLybia Rally of Morocco starts a great event in motorsports The rally raid “family” has grouped in southern Morocco for the second edition of the Baja Morocco and the OilLibya Rally of Morocco, the final of World Championship of Rallies. Everything is ready for a new edition of this rally, beating its own record of participation.

The OiLibya Rally of Morocco is the second greatest rally raid in the world after the Dakar

The organizer , NPO EVENTS has put in place in partnership with the Royal Moroccan Federation of Motorcycling and the Royal Moroccan Federation of Automobile Sports an acclaimed event in many ways :
* Six days of racing around two buzzing “areas of life” : Zagora and Erfoud
* A range of varied terrain with a special dedication to the sand this year
* An rally that is open to all
* An ideal position in the calendar
* The biggest teams and the best drivers in the world gathered in the Moroccan desert

A New edition, new records and as always a great atmosphere!

It is in this beautiful sunshine that competitors and the caravan have come to the rally seeking the light and heat of southern Morocco.
With 280 competitors in all categories, the OiLibya Rally of Morocco broke all previous attendance records. 850 people are active in the rally, including 120 in the organization and 70 journalists from around the world!

BIKES: COMA and GONCALVES competing for the world title in Morocco

Marc Coma (team KTM Red Bull) and Paulo GONCALVES (Team HRC RALLY) are the two drivers competing for the title of Rallies World Champion. With only three points separating them, the two men will compete for the title in the OiLibya Rally of Morocco.
Polish champion Jakub Przygonski, unfortunately lagging too far behind to pretend playing spoilsport, but he will not fail to try the win of one or more specials.
KTM sees its best chances of victory with COMA on No 1. KTM has also brought along Ruben Faria , LOPEZ , VAN Niekerk , Grabham , STRANGE and Caselli . Suffice to say that the Austrian “orange” brand has put all together quite a team to counter the ambitions of HONDA HRC. The Japanese firm hasn’t showed up empty handed bringing along Joan BARREDA and Helder Rodrigues accompanied by SUNDERLAND , Pizzolito and Gracida, all attending the OiLibya Rally of Morocco on their new official mount.
Olivier Pain also aiming for the best places with YAMAHA and Frans Verhoeven .
SHERCO RALLY FACTORY TEAM relying on Alain Duclos and three teammates to reach the podium.
The Italians are out in force also competing for top spots including the ENI team with leader Oscar Polli , GAGGIANI , the very feminine Giada BECCARI , and the owner of the Team Giuseppe RECCHI .
Besides the usual pletoria of teams in the OiLibya Rally of Morocco, we find the NOMADE RACING, PIBOULES Racing teams ... and a big community of Dutch drivers, here to share the sand slopes with the great champions. There are also some newcomers trying out their skills in the Moroccan desert.

In the Quad category, Vincent Albira is risking his title this year on HONDA .he’s also participating in the BAJA Rally of Morocco.
Sonik RAFAL, World Champion Quad category, will be put to the test by the Qatari promoter ABU -ISSA who made his debut in the World Championship this year, and the Italian Camelia Liparoti already four times World Champion in the women's category is on course to win another world title in quad.

CARS: many possibilities for the podium

The rally includes some of the biggest names in Rally Raid: Peterhansel , Schlesser, De Villiers , Saby , Biason , Vigouroux , Ten Brinke ... Who will be the best this year , inscribing his name in the history of the Rally ?

A epic battle is announced in this category. The team :Bernhard Ten Brinke / Matthew BAUMEL winners in 2011 of the OiLibya Rally of Morocco is looking to climb the top step of the podium this year at the wheel of their Mitsubishi prototype powered by Ford Wevers Sport Offroad . On the same team: WEVERS / LURQUIN and HUZINK / MAIMON, many distinguished Rally raid names that will shine here in Morocco.

The Armada of the X -Raid Team with 6 minis, fresh from a week of intensive testing is perfectly sharpened to embark on this new edition of the OiLibya Rally Morocco.
Renowned Teams: TERRANOVA / FIUZA , Garafulic / PICARD, Vasiliev / YEVTYEKHOV , SCHOTT / SCHMIDT, VILLAGRA / PEREZ and YACOPINI / Scopinaro are here to get on the top steps of the podium.

The Belgian Team Overdrive, also alive and well with Marek Dabrowski / Jacek CZACHOR will ride on familiar ground following their multiple participations OiLibya Rally of Morocco and Van Merksteijn / CHEVAILLIER.

Other drivers of such notoriety as Matthias KAHLE (No. 307) and co-driver Patrick SIREYJOL - François Beguin of Team Cummins France - were given an appointment to fight it out on the sand slopes
The Italian team of Tecnosport , The Russian’s 4Rally team , the Portuguese team MRacing ,the Argentine team of 4WD Jaton Racing , Dutch Teams: Dakar team and VAN Eikeren Drive, the Kazakh teams Astana and Mobilex Racing Team as well as many french teams like : Cantal Event , Trio Racing Generation 4x4, Pirates des caraibes and, TGO have come complete with participants from the 4 corners of the world.

In the T3 category, the Xtreme Plus team is represented by Duclos / DELEAUNAY, WHITTLE / CONNELL and SEAIDAN / LUCHTLEUCHTER, current overall leader of the FIA World Cup in the category.

The 100% female team MERRY / MARCHAND of TGO and co-drivers SEGUIN Corinne and Christine FAVRE in the car category all here to compete with the men.

In OPEN class: The Predators of Bugg'Afrique, are back again in force to try to steal the podium. They will compete this year against the Jollycar team’s Porsche, the Isuzu and Toyotas

In SSV, the Polaris will be confronted with the Bombardier.

There is also a great battle brewing in the truck category with the usual competitors of the OiLibya Rally of Morocco with the very talented and Elisabete JACINTO teammates Marques / Cochinho who will try once again to win the Rally this year. The Mercedes of the Polish team DOMOWNIK / JANDROWICZ / SALETA could give a hard time to the Portuguese champions. Just as the three French participants: COQUELLE / BECART / LEFEVRE on Renault No. 402 who have been playing for years in the Moroccan dunes, or VAN Werven / Zuurmond / Wigman of the Dutch GINAF RALLY SERVICE.

Tomorrow Sunday, October 13th, all pilots and thrill seekers will come together in a relaxed atmosphere to go through their administrative and technical checks in Zagora, before donning their suits to jump in the first stage of the OiLybia Rally of Morocco this Monday, October 14th.

The Baja Morocco has already launched hostilities

In this discipline, created for speed lovers who do not want to worry about navigating with a roadbook, the BAJA of Morocco meets their expectations. In this race for bikes / quads, last round of the FIM Baja’s World Cup, the GPS tracking system allows drivers to focus on driving. This unique BAJA race held on African soil for the second time by NPO Events promises sumptuous landscapes

Administrative and technical checks took place on Saturday in a friendly atmosphere, followed by the super-special 9km loops in the palm grove of Zagora. Whether professional or amateur, from Europe, Asia, America and Africa, all competitors were delighted with the first warm-up in which all agree to say that they had lot of fun.

Today Alessandro Ruoso (No. 101) is already taking advantage of a little over 34 seconds over Zanotti (No. 131) with 1'24 '' over the charming Andrea Mayer (No. 103) , brilliant third in the 1st leg. The fifteen Moroccans are lead by Noureddine EL- ftah (No. 112)

Alessandro Ruoso , Offroadmotors EMKGroup , Quad , No. 101 :

« _I am participating in the Baja to win and at the same time , win the FIM Bajas World Cup (over 450cc) . I 'm leading the championship now. My pursuer is the Venezuelan, I think I will be to my advantage here on Moroccan land . However, this week I was feverish can then I'll be sure not too fast from the beginning. _ »

The Baja is composed of three phases, 702 km including 492 km of SS. It has the professional and medical logistic support of the rally.

The Baja is honored by the Moroccan pilots themselves as no less that 14 are engaged in the race, with 8 quad riders. This participation is the result of the relationship between NPO and the Royal Moroccan Federation of Motorcycling.

The FIM Bajas World Cup in Morocco

Championship side some are in position to win the title on Monday night in Zagora. This is the case of the Italian rider Alex Zanotti on a TM (currently 77 points in the championship ) leading in the category of less than 450cc , 19 points ahead of the Venezuelan Luciano Di Battista Honda ( with 58 points) , ahead of another Italian , Gaetano de Filippo, the teammate of TM Zanotti (with 52 points).

If the title sounds acquired Zanotti, Di Battista intends to fight to the end to win.

The battle will also be tough in over 450cc, Alessandro Ruoso ( 67 points ) is leading , second the Venezuelan , Michael Berti (51 points). Third is the professional Andrea Mayer (47 points) , coached by the talented Stéphane Peterhansel himself, . After participating in the Dakar in the car and truck category, she is now with Yamaha " just for the fun of it !” she says, “ Back on bikes because it is what I love above all ." She is poised to succeed Emma Clair for the title of winner of the Women's World Bajas Cup. All she has to do is finish!

And there are a few scrutineering rumours that there is quite a bit of dust and that the factory boys with high number starts maybe feeling disadvantaged, so there could be some late adjustments

Hans found some nice local sponsors for the Dakar, non to be found for a continuous WEC effort :( Hope he does well, his first serious try at a rally although he did have a good go at Sardinia.

Dakar is still alive and kicking here although some of the regulars face budget issues with the current economy. Then again, the Ginaf boys are back after their operation went bust.

We are indeed Dakar crazy and I hope we do get some longer stages in the coming years that bring back the sense of adventure vs world rally championship stages...

Bring us more guys like Toby Young and Henno on his old 500!!

PS. Have a look at Rob van Pelt Jr. Great heritage behind him and a few Euros to run some more events. No corporate sponsors here but he did beat a lot of big names last year while running malle moto on an aging crf.

One of the big factors is the 3 point battle between Coma and Goncalves. Both on new bikes, Paulo a new team albeit a familiar structure. That is the battle to watch.

Stage 1 : In the sand of cheggaga

LIAISON : 77 KMS – SELECTIVE SECTOR : 203 KMS – LIAISON : 65 KMS
Sand and dunes await participants at the departure of this first step of Oilibya Rally of Morocco 2013.
For the
first kilometers
, crossing of little dunes. Then, a beautiful part of navigation on many parallel tracks allow
them to join the
Oued Draa and go in it for several kilometers before hitting the first dunes. Prepare shovels
and plates to cross the splendid erg Cheggaga
from southwest to northeast!
Then
, participants will discover a beautiful valley by crossing tracks more or less fast and will find the pass to

reach the finish. Copilots will have hard job for this first
.
