That was sheer genius on the part of Vettel, using Hamilton's tire to modify his front wing so he had more speed to pass on the front straight.

I bumped into rally racing in the Canary Islands on an obscure channel last night and saw that Robert Kubica was smoking the field for the first two legs. Then he wrecked. There was a shot of him sitting roadside and it looked like he wasn't using his right arm much. Is that the one he injured?

Seemed to me that Hamilton was the one more at fault in the incident.

And no, I'm not a Vettel apologist. "It's not fair!"

yes, it was his right arm.

(this video shows a bloodless simulation of the crash, and the path the armco took through the car.)

Quote:
On 6 February 2011, Kubica was injured in a crash on the first stage of the Ronde di Andora rally. He was driving a Super 2000-specification koda Fabia[46] in Testico when his car left the road at high speed and hit a crash barrier,[47] near the church of San Sebastiano.[48][49] Kubica was trapped in the car for more than an hour before rescue workers were able to extricate him.[50] He was flown by helicopter to Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure[51] near Savona, where it was confirmed that he had suffered partial amputation of his forearm, compound fractures to his right elbow, shoulder and leg, as well as significant loss of blood.[50][52][53] The severity of his injuries was the result of the crash barrier penetrating the car's cockpit, and hitting Kubica, while leaving his co-driver unscathed. Kubica underwent a seven hour operation by seven doctors split into two teams, without complications.[50] Two more lengthy operations to repair fractures to his leg, shoulder and arm were performed successfully a few days later.[54][55] The condition of his hand was not clear for some time and as a result he missed the 2011 season.[56][57][58] As he was unable to start the season, Lotus Renault signed Nick Heidfeld as his replacement on 16 February, while Kubica still remained signed with the team for the 2011 season.[59] Bruno Senna replaced Heidfeld later in the season, at the Belgian Grand Prix. Kubica was released from hospital to begin his rehabilitation on 24 April 2011.[60] In November 2011 it was announced that Kubica would not be ready for the beginning of the 2012 season, forcing Renault, now Lotus F1, to begin the season with two other drivers, Kimi R鄜kk霵en and Romain Grosjean.[61]

Thanks. It was a quick shot, but it seemed noticeable that was using his left hand instead of his right.

This thread wanders away from the subject of F1 circuit racing so often that its a concern.

On the subject of the whom is the best F1 driver in the very modern era, what more does one need other than the same circuit and car?

It says a lot about how sad F1 is that this list could be interesting.

But of course, it is interesting. Even the F1 drivers are interested. As you can see, when you watch them on the show.

It's a bit like world championship wrestling (or whatever title the various TV versions go by these days). If some talk show took the contestants and pitted each of them against a mechanical foe ... whose batteries weren't necessarily recharged for each bout.

Is this from Top Gear?

It's a bit ironic that you complain that the thread drifts away from F1.

And then you rate drivers by their times in a crappy car on a tiny circuit on a freaking TV entertainment show.

He's doing well, and on his way to the WRC2 championship. Citroen is bumping him up to the big class next year.

Thanks. I don't follow rally and I wasn't sure what class he was in.
