The Simpson Trail into Mike's isn't single track, but challenging all the same. Rob is right, lots of stuff getting paved but there's still plenty of adventure.

Last time down I met a retired fire fighter who cashed in and lives in TJ. I called him out on being crazy for all the typical American reasons and he says to me he is living more free than he ever did in the states. He summed it up with, "less security and restrictions equals more freedom. Works for him but I'm not moving to TJ anytime soon. Still riding dirt bikes or big adventure bikes on the beach or across some ranch land is pretty cool. Wonder what would happen if I went tearing across Huntington or Irvine Ranch on any of my bikes?

You'd feel awesome, if only for a few minutes.

I will be watchig this thread- been riding Baja every year since the early 90's. Raced the 100 last year as part of a 3-bike team that included one team of 3-amputees - who all hauled major ass- (All 3- teams finished in top ten spots- I was on the 14X team).

Will agree that it's changed over the years- but there are still neat spots to ride. In May we rode from Yuma, across the Altar Dunes down the mainland to Guyamas. Then took a ferry across to Santa Rosalia and rode back to Tecate.

getting older and just bought a Tiger - its never gonna see Baja the way I like it- but my 450 is always ready to go

Good times.

Hey Rich - I'll be heading down on Wed the 12th and will be working a pit crew with JCR. I will have a better idea of where I'll be after our pit logistics meeting on the 3rd.

They are using a new format this year with the bikes and quads taking off at 11:00 pm and the trucks and cars leaving at 7:00 the next morning.

Hope to see you there.

Great idea for a thread!

Still looks fun, but ......I'd rather spend my time on my little bike doing 80 mile really hard days in the Sequoias or Sierras on goat trail ST, instead of 300 miles of desert and wide foothill roads with a little beach run thrown in.

Have to admit, I still miss the tacos and beer though south o the border.

Don't shortchange yourself. For greater challenge, get a bigger bike, a really tall bike. 2 cylinder, 1200 cc minimum. Lots of stuff to piss you off on a big bike that you'd laugh at on a small bike. Ride street tires. Carry extra tires. Carry 2 months worth of gear, food and alcohol on a 2-day trip. At least 10 gallons of fuel. Do it 2-up. Sit backwards on the bike. I'm sure a creative guy like you can think of lots more ways to have fun and challenge yourself. Add tacos and beer and it's all good.

I'd like to go also. If I can make it, I'll take the big bike and stick to the easy stuff. Knowing the weird start time they're using this year, I'd like to go a little further south so I can see the bikes go through during daylight. As the date gets closer I'll send some PM's so I can coordinate with you. Thanks!

If you ask me- That new start time sucks - Usually the mexicans are hung over from partying the night before. Now the guys get to ride all night straight through a wild party. I am afraid a few Guys are going to get hurt.

And- JCR pits rule!!- Great support
