LOL! Join me next time! I only tagged the lower fairing on one small log crossing, it was about 6" off the ground and bounced up after the front wheel hit it. Yeah, the engine is great, very flexible, no hit. It won't be the throttle wheelie king, but with lower gears (like stock gearing) and traction it should lift the front end pretty easily. I can clutch it up with a bit of a lift, like rolled speed bumps, in second gear as it is now.

I'm eyeballing how to raise the rear in the stock frame for 7-9" of travel...

I kinda wish I could find a rat 300 to start with. Then I could be riding it now as I ponder the big plan. I wonder if my 300 engine will bolt into an '08 and newer 250R?

I'll try to find out for you, lots of the parts are interchangeable.

Apparently nobody knows if the engines will bolt right in the older frames. I think another guy was looking to get the rubber mounts on his 250, still no answer to either inquiry. Sorry Tony, you may have to be the one to try it first!

I couldn't find a definite answer either. Still looking. I found an 08 for $1200. I have till the weekend to figure out if it will work or not.

Ebay has a bunch of frames off previous years bikes, just be sure about titles. I'd not use any of the other bits anyway to be honest. Everything is sub standard already, you can only make it better. Maybe add a bolt on cradle?

That is a great goal.

For a 300cc twin, I think you have a 300 pound goal!!!!!!!

I'm waiting for your instructions so I can build one.

I'm keepin an eye, but you took the wind from my sails of excitement when you back burner-ed this!

Meanwhile, I just decided to ride my 300 like a rally bike anyway!

That is a nice shape, and my bike may be naked at some point if I keep blasting dirty roads. I nearly sank it hard in a deep mud hole on a jeep road last week.

How simple would it be for Kawasaki to make this a light adventure bike? All they would need to do is double the suspension travel. Seems like a slam dunk to me. How can I convince them?

New Bike=High development costs

Small bike=lower prices

They probably don't think there's enough demand to pay for the R&D.

Look at the market, the manufacturer who builds the most off-road capable adventure bike has decided to release a new model which is significantly less capable off road, rather then making their current bike more capable (990 vs 1190). And the big GS is a top seller, when the 800 is much more capable off road. Based upon what the leaders in the industry segment are doing, I would be shocked to see anyone come out with anything lighter and more dirt capable then maybe the 800GS/XC.

If they could build this from a scooter...

http://www.scootersales.com.au/news-...-modified.aspx

and get that result, the Adv 300 Kawi would be easy to mock up. Longer swingarm, different seat/tank/tail, reinforce the frame, upgrade the lousy stock steering bearings before it left the factory, 18/21" wheels, 8-10" of travel on a simple fork & shock. The worst part of the stock 300 would be getting the foot controls in the right place. The tank is less of an issue than the one I had on my Super Enduro, until you drop and dent it anyway!

Engine is already certified, building a DS version would be a snap. Question is, who would buy it? IMO, it would be a true upgrade to replace the KLR650 engine. (Yeah, I had one!). They should toss that anvil to the curb and just label the KLR300 as a 650, nobody would know!

Like KTM, they should be getting at least 3 bikes out of each platform. Ninja, naked, Adv/DS. Hell, build a Ltd 300 cruiser for all I care too!

Tony, just build the damn thing already.
