would have been nice to have more commitment in the series from another manufacture - Aprilia - in the series. They seemed interested in increasing their investment so hopefully that is not completely dead.

Looks like Aprilia has had a pretty big downturn in sales recently.

Hope they can reverse that trend.

Aprillia are in trouble because they are involved with or owned by Piaggio, who are laying off workers and may be closing a plant according to what I read yesterday on the BMWMOA Bench racing thread.

So that class of bikes will be called "open". I guess we can discontinue the term "prody", thankfully.

Yeah, "production racer" was a clunky oxymoron.

Is this a return to leasing or does Aspar own the bike?

They own the bike. 1 million euros in 1st year, half a million for upgrades in year 2. Though given the amount of support from American Honda and HRC, I suspect Aspar got these on the cheap.

I'm happy for Hayden getting away from Ducati and on a bike which probably suits his riding style a bit better.

He won't be getting podiums, but I think he's ok with that at this stage of his career and the present circumstances in MotoGP, with so few really competitive rides available.

He wants to remain in the big show, and who can blame him. He's a real racer, and has a chance to continue racing in the top class. Competition should be fierce amongst the 5th through 10th places, which is where he'll most likely be.

Here's hoping he stomps the Italian red machines first time out.

Hey Krop-

What's with Honda and their weak moto3 engine. There were two of them in the top 10 at Sepang, but are they not going to step up their game to catch even Mahindra?

Great race I'll add.

Espagaro would never make it in business, IMHO!

Unless, behind the scenes, Yamaha is making it worth his while to the help little brother get up to speed. Would make sense.

Honda is upping up their Moto 3 game for 2014.

Check some of Krop's articles. He discusses it.

Thanks for the info.

It's too bad it took a couple of years of slow CRTs before Honda finally saw reason.

Rumor of the day? Preziosi to KTM to develop Moto GP effort with Red Bull backing. Will pursue Stoner as their rider.

In other news, Mick Doohan used this weekend's Phillip Island MotoGP event as a platform to announce that he will be re-breaking his own leg in order to stage the grittiest comeback of all time. His Michelin-shod Honda 500cc two-stroke "screamer" will be sponsored by the True Grit smelling salts brand. Energy drink Pussy will be an associate sponsor.

Roman Albesiano is in Jerez this weekend. He was at Sepang last weekend trying to regain some composure for Aprilia after the announcement that Gigi Dall'Igna would be leaving for Ducati, while making a last ditch effort to retain Aspar and to sign Nicky Hayden.

In the article below he maps out Aprilia's plans for Moto GP and WSBK and mentions trying to retain Eugene Laverty (in WSBK? ), also.

Would be interesting to see Laverty and maybe RdP with Aprilia under another team in Moto GP.

Maybe they will put Laverty on the Althea Team as partner to Giuliano in WSBK?
