This is going to be good , especially if people are forced to drive during low light conditions. Some of them seem prepared to do so anyways

Is that an F800, on the front page? This looks like fun.

Okay, here are the start orders, and time for the liaison as well as the special for stage 1:

The guys have 05h36 minutes to reach the start of the special without penalty.

Apparently there are some stop-and-goes that they are not allowed to slip past on pain of penalties.

The organisation thinks they will take 4-5 hours to finish the special, so with a 5-6 hour liaison, riders will be on the road at least 9 hours. Slower guys will be 10-15 hours :eek:

And another view of the campsite where they have been sleeping. Looks nice hey?? I LOVE South Africa.

While we wait for the route, which I believe will only be available after the riders have left, those of you wanting to chase and spectate had better get a move on. Here are another two options:

Option 1) Go the Malgas Pontoon ferry, I believe the riders will be passing through there from about 07:30-8 am. You'll be able to talk to them on the ferry as well! Best to approach from the R319 side. Drive Carefully - You could meet lots of bikes on the way!

Option 2) Drive up to Laingsburg to see the start of the special stage. You need to be there by 11 am to see the first bikes off just after that.

GPS Coords: 33 11.665S 20 51.235E Just over the main bridge from the Shell (?) Grudge and one-stop.
I've marked 2 good spectator points, and the riders route in Blue. Keep off this route please!!

{edit: I will post the *pic after 6:20 am}

15 minutes to lift off!!

well, with those long liasons, and long days, I can see how 1200ADV and a 950ADV would come in handy looking forward to seeing what the tracks are like.

The first riders have finished the ~450km liaison.

The riverbed is taking no prisoners.
One bike hit rock, broke sump, and is now being recovered.
Another bike hit rock (another rock, not the same one, there are plenty to go around) and holed his petrol tank. He is limping to the bivuoac via tar road.
The R1200GSA sunk in the sand almost immediately. To his credit, the rider got going again, but is now on a parallel route.
