I also had my low beam headlight go out which the mechanic at the dealership that I stopped at to get the new tires said was caused by a broken clip in the headlight assembly. That clip doesn't come separately and the assembly is $500. It's a warranty fix of course but a pain in the rear cuz I have to have my dealer here order it and hopefully get it down there to get it fixed before the snow flies. (I live 150 miles from the nearest bmw dealership and I'm in MN so snow could be flying anytime!)

As for vibration in the bars I haven't noticed much of a problem with it in mine. The bike feels very smooth and comfortable to me.
Your post is very informative. Thanks!

I would guess that it's a tight fit! Both Suburban Machinery and Knight Designs make lowered pegs but I haven't seen any posts here about them. There are also a couple of F800GT threads over on f800riders.org forum

This may or may not be of any help...

I am 6'3" w/ a 34" inseam; pretty close to your specs.

I rode my GF's F800ST from Detroit to Toronto because it came w/ a regular seat on it.

(circa 5 hrs)

Where my legs met the edge of the seat caused me enough pain that I rode in a ridiculous offset position for the second half of the trip.

After putting the low seat on, my ass is completely comfortable on this bike!!

Go figure.

Even the slight increase in knee bend doesn't bother me at all.

I think you are going to have to try and find one for a test ride.

I just wanted to stop by and say hi. I've been following this thread for a while. I'm considering getting a F800GT in the future. I really want to get a mid-size tourer that is reliable with a smooth ride.

Well hi to you too. Kinda slow here sometimes. F800GT is a great bike. I've had mine three weeks and I continue to be impressed with how competent it is in everything I have asked of it. Light, agile, and economical. Comfortable and quiet. Cruises at 80, creeps along in rush hour. It's all around the best bike I've ever owned!

Bmw f800gt

Since my last post I sold my Shiver which I regretted almost immediately. I took a couple more rides on the F800GT. I have a hard time not being drawn to the white one. The additional rides confirmed the Ergos just weren't right for me although I was warming up to the sound and acceleration. However, since I ride every day the Ergos were no small thing. I ended up getting a Hyperstrada. No regrets although stock lighting not too impressive at night. It's a bit on tall side but so light it's easy to manage the lean. Not getting quite the same mileage as the F800 would deliver but having fun burning a bit more gas.

I'm 6'2", 32" inseem. When I took a test ride, the wind was hitting me squarely in between my shoulder blades. You might need to look at a taller windshield.

Or a shorter one. :-) I'm also 6'2", and I think the airflow management on an F800ST with the stock windshield is my favorite of any bike.

I determined that the numbness in my hands is not caused by the F800GT. I sat on the bike in my garage for about 10 minutes with my hands on the grips and my hands started feeling numb. This is without the engine on. I then noticed that I bend my wrist down too much and this could be what is causing the blood to my hands to decrease and cause numbness. So I spent some time trying different positions and finally settled on keeping my wrists straight with hand and arms. Leaning forward and putting some pressure on hands on the grips. So if I removed my hands from the grips I would fall forward. I know people say to have no pressure on the grips, but this strains my shoulder and arm muscles. Perhaps I need to get bar risers that put the grips a little more back towards me.

This morning I went on a 300 mile trip. It took about 6 hours and my hands were fine. They never became numb.

I did notice that around 75 mph the bike itself does get some vibrations as I was feeling them in the seat, pegs, and grips. At 65 mph and lower I did not experience this.

Also, I only weigh 150 lbs. So I am wondering if I weighed 50 lbs more, would that extra mass soak up some of the vibrations?

Have you tried rolling the bars in the clamps to attain the alignment in a more comfortable position?

Check out this u-tube video for some ideas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=twW0ClpyLKc
