I don't see where you are reading that. But if your bike is under 300cc and/or over 15 years old it doesn't require a title, so you can safely leave that blank or write "N/A" in the box.

After 2 years of riding my XR650R in NJ with VT tags I decided to hit the DMV and swap over to NJ title, tags and reg. The lady asked me where was my title, I told her VT doesn't title bikes under 650cc. She just said oh, ok! Doubled the value of my bike in 15 minutes.

Anyone from Florida have advice on the vin verification portion? I have an 86 vt1100, vin is clean. Will the VT vin form signed by a local leo with his business card attached be ok? The local pd said they dont provide a letter on letterhead when doing a vin check. So hopefully someone from Florida has done this and can tell me what they did.

If VT doesn't have a designated VIN verification form, I'm sure a Florida one would work. Call up VT and ask if they have one, or if they'd except a FL one.

I just used a local dealers letter head. Wrote it up, did a VIN pencil trace and asked him to varify the VIN on my bike to the Trace. I had it notorized at my work. Do the letter yourself...make it EASY for your dealer! Look and sign 10 seconds. Remember....they just need something offical for their file. The WORST that will happen is they will return it and ask for more.

Gonna try this for a 2008 Chinese 49cc scooter. Was bought new in NC with no paperwork about 4 years ago. My uncle gave it to me with 117 miles on it and I brought it to South Florida. Florida wont register/title it without either an MSO or court order. Scooter is only worth $300 with a title.

Update: Got the plate in the mail and a temporary registration form. FYI the minimum tax amount is calculated at a $500 value no matter how little you paid. You can call Vermont DMV and they can look up the value for the tax amount. Only cost me $51 as it was under 50cc. Uncle is gonna send in for a couple bikes he has had for 20 years that he got from our cousin who has been dead for several years.

It will be fine as long as you have a VIN. Just write up a BOS. Be sure and look up the NDA book value and use it to calculate the use tax and not the actual price you paid. If its too low they will turn the papers back.

I am going to go about doing this pretty soon here. Recently purchased a klr 250 without a title. I'm working on filling out the proper information. Part 1A is titled "Transaction Type". Which type am I trying to do? New, Transfer, Renew, Lost, Stolen, Seized, or IRP Tax and Title? Thanks for any help in advance! Also does anyone know if this means of getting a title still works? Thanks!
