Not yet, but apparently some snails on the west coast are getting close.

Love the photos and I need to get out more.

Monday Mayhem

Due to recently loosing my job of 23 years , a few of us decided Monday was as good a day as any to go for a ride.

The weather was variable. Typical spring for this area. We started off in light drizzle, but as we progresed south, it got heavier and heavier until it was fair pissing down.

Gerard on the big beemer

Marty on the 690

and Paul on a DR

We rode to Pori road, then down a slippy Puketio road.

Once we got down out of the hills, the sun started to shine.

Awesome track

You can see the rain higher up in the hills

The Three Kings in the distance. Marty's big yellow head getting in the way.

Spur Road

Akitio

Porangahau. The pub wasn't open so we had some dodgy pies from the shop over the road.

Blackhead Beach

G and I then left the others and headed back towards Dannevirke. There are quite a few awesome gravel roads inland.

Road kill. Bloody hare was running along side then swerved towards me and went under the back wheel.

Thanks for a great day guys. It was good to blow off some steam. I didn't take many photos as I was too busy enjoying the ride.

Pick of the day...

52

The other weekend Mark said he was going to do some girly ride around highway 52 and wanted to meet up for lunch or something. I'm not big on details, but Wade was pretty keen on a ride, so we met up in Pahiatua. We hit the road and smoked over what must be the best sealed road in the north westish Wairarapa, with twisty turns and bumpy berms.

Not many photo oppertunities on the black stuff, but here's the ugly bunch...Mark checking his nail polish and Wade the firmness of his seat...or perhaps he's taking a...no, there's no puddle.

Here they are on some more boring hard surfaced black stuff

We consumed some fairly average burgers at Porongahau and talked plenty of BS...then found some real roads...

Crappy track at Blackhead...now we're talking...

Along the beach...

Cool

Then we split for home. I maximised the gravel on the way home, and discovered that the rear tyre was slightly beyond it's best. It started getting real squirmy. I don't mind it getting a little loose on the gravel, but this was so bad I almost had to slow down...

Oh, the pine tree branches on the back were for my sons school project. I hooked them off a small tree on the side of the road.

Pic of the day...Fred Flintstones spare wheel. If one of the KLR's got a flat we could just bolt this up.

Good ride guys. I've got to say that Highway 52 has to be one of the best roady rides around. Cheers.

I decided to give the bike a birthday

New tyre (cheap shit, you wouldn't believe how cheap)

flash chain

I did a quick comparison of the chains for sideways flex. Top is the new DID X-ring (VX). Middle is the stock DID O-ring (V8) with about 20k on it. Bottom is a DID nothing ring (NZ) with about 5k on it. Don't buy a nothing ring...

sprocket will hang in for a while longer...

Back brake pads won't...

I seem to blow through back brakes heaps quicker than the fronts. I can't understand it. I never have tyres with any grip back there, so the back brakes are next to useless anyway.

Always good for a laugh, greese on the rim of your gumboot. How the hell did I do that?

I’ll pick up a new one next week.
