International shipping via air

I've been looking in to shipping a bike air freight from Africa to the US. So far I've gotten 2 quotes, they consider motorcycles class 9 ( hazardous, due to oil / gas ) even with all fluids drained etc. etc.

Both quotes are 8k USD and some change!

One was DHL and the other cargo freight handling service.

Is this as good as it gets?

Has anyone done this, how much, and who did you use?

Other option is a shipping container.

8K?!? That's what we pay for a full 40' container out of Italy!

You might try a company like JAS. I don't know if they have a branch in Africa but they have networks world wide. jas.com or http://www.dbgroup.net/

We've brought some bikes over with JAS. If you get the thing crated that reduces the price.

Try HU

Also try the major airlines - they do airfreight - the cheapest will be from a major air hub to another major air hub by a direct flight.

Somebody recently sent a DL650 by air from Kuala Lumpur to Amsterdam, by air, and it cost about 1200-1300 euros. That to me is in the ballpark. 8000 usd is not ok, even though your route may be a bit longer. But to find a good freight forwarder is critical, and sorry I can't help you on that.

(Used vehicles will be sent as Dangerous Goods, and you need to work with someone, who is authorised to issue that certificate.)

This. Oman Air can get 2 bikes from Oman to Turkey for $500. The UK is even cheaper as they have a direct flight to London.
