james cargo

I met Roddy from James Cargo at a Horizons unlimited event in Northern Ireland. He freights bikes out of the UK all over the world. I haven't used him yet but he seemed like a good bloke.

To find them you could Google: "NZ motorbike rentals", or search the yellow pages for motorcycle rentals.

Hi,

I'm into dual-sporting in the US West, camping all the way. I'm wondering what camping is *generally* like in NZ (I just discovered this topic and haven't done much research yet). Is camping along the road possible other than on public (like our BLM or Forest Service) land? Do people care? I guess I'm wondering what the cultural norms are.

Many Thanks,
Bob

We call them ' freedom campers ' & they have pretty much pissed in their chips [ fries ] in NZ. Budget tourists in campers without toilets who camp wherever to enjoy the scenic beauty & then shit all over it . It has got pretty ugly on occasions when locals take exception to stupid thoughtless behaviour.
On the positive side there are plenty of DOC campgrounds [ like your parks service ] & plenty of fully serviced campgrounds like your KOA sites. Backpackers are another cheap alternative

Its not all about the campers sadly, New Zealand is not the safe haven to visit that it used to be

Not quite as bad in the South Island yet but there are a lot of angry people slowly ruining this country. For safety sake camp in designated areas, let people know where you are going, store valuables safely. Secure your bike when unattended. The country is awesome, most people in it are too. But not all of us
