On the surface it looks to me that KTM took a big step away from off road /adventure. Obviously everyone has a different idea of off road but mine is that 600 pounds is not off road. Their marketing department most likely knows more. Yes the BMW is the icon that everyone is chasing after but I still stay the are all street bikes.

We probably would have stayed out longer except for the weather forecast for yesterday. We managed to get through entire trip with only wet roads and next to zero rain. We didn't want the last day to be in a cold November rain.

It was a nearly perfect run!

unused rain gear is nice.....

actually this has been a good week for the commute ride...even yesterday was a mostly dry ride...
saw a little ice on the edge of a road in the shadows this morning but was expecting it and stayed off the edges...

Was just doing a little math. Thought I would share in case anyone was planning any similar trip

some baselines
Length of trip. 36 days
6,848 miles per GPS. My ODO is a bit off, and overstates miles and speed. It showed 7,567. I assume that the GPS is more accurate.
Total cost for the 5 weeks, as closely as I can figure It was $1,668. Keep in mind that these numbers are slightly skewed because I spent a big portion of the first 2 weeks at my brother's and not riding. I should probably do a separate analysis of the final 3 weeks. Perhaps I will later.

That works out to about $46.33 per day.
$.24 per mile.

We aimed for frugal. But we ended up staying in budget hotels nearly every night. We did eat out mostly, but not every meal. My solo ride numbers were lower because my mileage was higher. As a solo rider I average an easy 500+ miles per day. With Tigger (aka margaritamotoress) we were more like 300. Due in large measure to much cooler temps and lazy mornings blogging. We almost always started mid morning and ended our riding day by 3 or 4 pm. We were not in that kind of rush.

I do not know what tigger's final numbers were. She had some additional "bike expenses" that I did not have.

Currently my ODO on the old Vee shows 96,255. Didn't do as many miles as I had at first expected. But would do it again in a heartbeat.

Have to say that it looks like the Vstrom has weathered the miles better then it's owner.

Glad you had a good adventure. Welcome back.

Thanks for the book delivery. Always nice to see/ hear a bike pull up when you aren't able to get on one yourself.
