F800GS Sunny Coast/Bris after some advice

Just looking to see if theres someone on the Sunshine Coast/Bisbane who is knowledgeable about the mechanics of the GS.

Dont want to make this long winded but Im frustrated by the response that Ive had to date with getting my bike 'fixed'.

Recently the bike developed a rattle on startup, which evolved into a more prominent rattle. Not engine-destroying-scary but noticeable. Was told it was probably the cam chain tensioner so I had it replaced.

Following this the rattle was louder that before and the bike developed a rasping/rackety sound. This became more pronounced the longer I rode the bike. Pull the clutch in or in neutral and its pretty noticeable.

Got the bike looked over again, cam shafts checked, valve clearances, lobe wear, water pump, cam chain and sprockets...all good no excess wear and tear. Was told just to monitor it and that some bikes just have a rattle.

Well if the GS has this kind of rattle at 40k then maybe my expectations were too high of BMW and I should be riding a KTM etc.

Picked the bike up this afternoon and it was the worst ride Ive had on it, with the noise so obvious, and a persistent vibration coming up through the bars and pegs at 90-100kms.

I dont know if its just me, or it is in fact the bike, and being that this is my first GS I dont have anything to compare it to. I had planned a 2000k ride starting this Sat morning which Ive reluctantly decided to postpone as I dont want to be in the middle of nowhere when the problem decides to become more critical.

I can take it back to the mechanic, who I have no Ill feelings towards, and ask them to check again, but I want to pay for a solution that gives me a bike that feel great to ride.

So if youve got any advice or if you want to take a look Im happy to swing by.

Mark

I've had the cam chain tensioner replace as it was sticking until the bike was warm. My bike does rattle and is considered noisy by others. There is no problem when I ride and it performs as expected. I have read that some of the inmates in the US and here have changed the cam chain and this has eliminated the rattle.

PM sent.

It's just the loose change in your pocket that rattles Don't have much folding stuff left after you buy a BMW

Oh let the fun begin

Mate wish it was just the loose change.

Going to drop by a guy named Tor on the Coast early this week to have it looked over.

Took it out for a spin on Friday and recorded the engine with the GoPro and it sounds like the engine is about to fall apart.

This all began after I got a new CCT installed.

Just out of curiosity, this is a vid of the bike. Since I posted this video the bike has been back to BMW and since then Id swear the sound is getting worse.

http://youtu.be/k19UX6tfrNM

The GoPro actually makes the bike sound nicer than it is standing alonsgide it.

like you say, bit hard to tell from the vid. the last few secs dont sound too flash. not something silly like a loose bash plate or crash bar attachment?

Had a lengthy chat with Tor on the Sunny Coast and long story short, the bikes back into BMW on Monday to check that the CCT is performing correctly. Till then its back to driving the Getz.
