He gets anywhere near Peter and his mini will be set to drop a cylinder. He's proven that he's not a team player.

They'll make him be one.

It is interesting to see Quinn Cody as B.J. Baldwin's navigator.

It's actually a continuation of a trend... When RG decided to do his "own" thing at dakar with the Hummer way back when, he secured the services of US SCORE/Baja riders with Dakar/navigation experience. ie. guys with a feeling for the GPS/roadbook based navigation and familiarity with the US offroad racing style approach (read balls out) that the Gordon/Hummer team take to the crap shoot.

Andy Grider, Kellon Welch and Johnny Campbell have all fit into the mould nicely...

It makes ense that BJ might look for the same qualities when he drew up a short list for his "co-dawg"...

I could never imagine one of the US racers coersing a pro "euro co-pilot" - the likes of Jean Paul Cottet, Timo Gottschalk or Tina Thörner to jump in the panic seat of one of the "Baja loons"... Nasser scared the shit out of his share of co-drivers... and that was before he got his hands on the Hummer or Buglies with the big wheel travel figures!

interesting yes, but to me also sad that he was unable to secure a ride and backing for Dakar.

The Battle of the Golden Claws!

If I can order a Gordini in a General Lee paint job, I'm getting one!

From an ASO press release:

"Traffic jams are quite likely at the top end of the cars category. The level of competition is such that the Minis’ domination is not guaranteed, but Sven Qandt has taken steps to sow the seeds of chaos within his group. The owner of the X-raid team, who is not very fond of race orders, has convinced Nasser Al-Attiyah to come back, giving us the prospect of a battle for the title with Stéphane Peterhansel and Nani Roma and Krzysztof Holowczyc: a real basket of crabs with golden claws!"

. . .

"David Castera, Sports Director of the Dakar: “We know that accumulated fatigue is one of the most complex factors to deal with in the Dakar. With an average of 50 extra kilometres to be covered every day in comparison with the previous edition, we could say that we have increased the level of difficulty by one or two notches: these extra kilometres will affect everyone! That is part of the spirit of rally raid.”

It's a pretty good article.

From another article on Marathonrally:
". . . four starters from the US . . . two of them will be a garant for the best show. Why? Because we are talking about Robby Gordon (Hummer Proto) and BJ "Balistic" Baldwin (Chevrolet Proto). Gordon is a "Dakar-expert", started his Dakar-career with Volkswagen in Africa. Baldwin is a Dakar-newbee. But in their home-country and especially the SCORE races like the legendary "Baja 1000" both are fighting "with knifes between their teeth" and are known to be not best friends. And Baldwin just has won the Baja 2013 - against Gordon. Both are driving with Toyo Tires, ok - but Baldwin with Gordon´s old sponsor "Monster Energy". A second point why they are not best friends. "
