Now that Doe Mtn's finally open, we local guys are going to have to pitch in and help design and clear the trails we want.

I was in Mtn. City today, so I stopped by Mountain City Cycles and asked about the annual permits. They told me that I could purchase additional annual permits and take guests with me. So, I bought 2 permits and I can take 1 guest.

I asked about group rates, for the RDV rally in May. The fine print on the permit mentions groups rates, but they weren't sure about the pricing details.

Hey Glenn I was thinking going up late this month, Sat after T-day. Wanna go and I contribute to your annual permit?

"Probably maybe"

Let me check with the boss lady. She might have me obligated to be somewhere. (I'm not the best listener...)

.

I received a phone call a couple of days ago telling me that I could not use the second permit freely with various guest, it has to be assigned to somebody for insurance reasons (signed waiver thing). So, I'll be returning the second one for a refund.... Yes, I told em' it stinks. Because I have folks who'll only ride a few times per year, and I don't like the $18 day rate.

(Seems that they could have treated the place like a state road, where each driver has their own insurance. Then only kids, under driving age, would need to sign the waiver for insurance.)

I'd like to ride, but can't share the permit. (see above post) We can still ride Doe if you want to, or we can ride free nearby.

I like your nearby free riding, it was good stuff. While we're on topic, how close is doe mtn. to the stuff we were riding last time I was up? Reason I ask, is, that would make a pretty fun weekend to ride both doe and outlaw...

Rmember that nasty hill I climbed after we cleaned it off for what seemed like an hour!!??

They are next to each other, but the entrance for Doe is on the opposite side, on Harbin Hill Rd., off Hwy 67.

If you look at a map, Doe Mtn is the ridge that runs between Hwy 167 & Hwy 67. Stone Mtn is the ridge which is the NC/TN state line.

Wish I was closer (W. of Tn. River) as cutting trails (& riding) with my dad are my very best memories.

All the folks whining about $18 for a day of riding don't know how GOOD they've still got it. The county I grew up in back in Florida is now confiscating dirt bikes & Quads if you don't have written permission from land owner. Just before I left I was hauling the bikes 1.5 hours to ride a spot that had 100-200 other riders (all 2 way traffic) & a holiday weekend could easily see 500. There was always the helmetless bozo riding around with a beer in one hand as well.

ANYONE WITHIN AN HOUR OF DOE MOUNTAIN NEEDS TO GET OFF THEIR BUTT & CUT SOME TRAIL!!!!! At least once.

Rode a little on Doe today. Didn't have much time, but found a tricky little trail that somebody's been clearing. It was a dead end, but I'm assuming it will connect to something when it's finished. It wasn't steep, but it was tight & rocky weaving through Rhododendrons & a creek at times. The branches were in my face a bit too much, maybe they were working on foot or quads? Didn't seem like a quad trail. It was too narrow.

I haven't been to the MTRA meetings or to Doe in a while, so I don't know how many other new trails are being cleared. I'd hoped to help with the trails, but life's been busy and I haven't had much free time. Hopefully I'll get over to Doe more this summer, and see what else is new.

Btw, there's a new campground that is next to Doe. They actually have a trail connecting into the Doe trails. It's only $10 for a site that's big enough for a few tents and they have hot showers. It is about 3 miles to town, which has restaurants, grocery, hardware, Suzuki dealer, etc. http://randdcampground.com/

It would be a good place for a small dirt gathering of ADVrider inmates.
