Bing carburetors

I think there's a Bing carburetor secret: a tiny chamber beneath the idle jets because of the way it's made. The chamber fills over time with old lead and other sediment and needs, somehow, to be cleaned. A pressed-in plug closes the chamber. If it were possible to extract this plug (and later put it back) the chamber could be cleaned--has anyone ever done it?

Are you referring to a plug in front of the idle jet, outside of the bowl gasket area, next to the idle mix screw?

Such plugs are removable sometimes. Or maybe I should say, "I can remove it, not sure how much damage I would cause." The procedure is to drill a small hole and pull plug with a small slide hammer and threaded screw tip, like doing body work. A smaller than body work hammer would be needed. I have such a tool but I think it is made for even bigger plugs than this. Needs a really small puller.

Pretty sure removing the plug will destroy it. You'll have to make another one. Heat of course would help, it looks like a steel plug in the Aluminum body.

Have you actually pulled one of these plugs and found the area clogged? Or this is just "supposing"?

We have had reports of carbs that responded well to cleaning the idle passage in the carb body with thin wire. This may be doing the same thing you are contemplating.

I have found that a spray can of carb cleaner does the job.

You just have to get a good diagram of a Bing carb, then spray the cleaner into every orifice and make certain it comes out or the right places.

Remember there are two pin pricks, and the other one gets blocked more often than the idle jet - it is cleaned by blowing down the small hole which runs parallel to the inlet throat.

Regular doses of Seafoam, or injection cleaner, are probably a good idea too - gas aint what it was a few years back and doesn't take long to break down.

Are we talking about the location indicated by #5

Removing the pilot mixture screw and squirting carb cleaner down the pilot air inlet would clean that.
