Wait till the gloves come off...

With all these selfless "team players" populating the top dozen places or so... It'll be a miracle if anyone wins it... (maybe this is the year a rank outsider privateer steals the trophy cabinet - while all the gracious "factory team players" wait around to help each other out?

yeah... everyone says the right things to the press in the politically correct pre-prepared statements... don't they?

...the structure will be minimalist... the better years in Dakar were like this...we will be eight people... we divided the Yamaha team in two, on one side Pain and Verhoeven, on the other Metge and myself... and beside that six persons, a little team but efficient...

This is what...? A 4WD offroad racing spec burger joint/diner...?

Finally... FIA approved fast food...!

Reminds me of a former French Dakarcompetitor Georges Groine... he also was responsible for some years for the catering on a number of the original "Dakar" (Africa). He had some very well set up T4 trucks for the same purpose.

So which bike will be the fastest, top end speed, across the salt flats....my money is on the Hondas.

Looks like there might be a minute to gain or lose by going flat out across one of those flats...enough time to make a difference maybe

For me, still The KTM or even the Speedbrain, but they shouldn't influence too much?

Aren't there report that the salt flats are wet at the time of the Dakar?

One of the local inmates reported earlier that they could be damp at that time... yes.

But even if they are dry... (to reply to top speed ted's comment )

Full noise, for 10 to 15 minutes, at altitude on 450 mx based single cylinder engines = someone will go for certain...

I am an ADV rider competing this year and am looking for support.

My name is Peter Hardy and I will be racing a KTM XCW built by Scott Spears at Freedom Rally, who will also be servicing the bike during the rally. More can be found at freedomrallyracing.com

My background is racing Baja. I attended Jimmy Lewis' navigation clinic and raced the Tuareg Rally this spring in preparation for Dakar. My job as a seasonal wildland firefighter prevents me from riding in the summer, but does provide excellent cardio and strength training. Lately I have been riding as much as possible.

I am not the fastest or wealthiest racer out there, but I do have the determination to race the Dakar Rally.

Please consider supporting this effort by PayPal. Any amount is appreciated. For $50 or more, I will send a shirt, two coozies and three stickers anywhere in the US. Please include shirt size and address.

Thank you!

It will be in Bolivia where motorbikes and quad competitors will face the second marathon stage of the Dakar 2014, crossing the Sico Pass. The first will be between San Rafael and San Juan, the third stage of the competition.

David Castera, Dakar sporting director, anticipated his idea that the competitors pass through the Salar, Uyuni although "we made two routes, one with and one without it, with more water."

"We will wait for two days before to decide what we will choose. It can be spectacular Salar with 50 or 100 bikes, hopefully it does not rain "

And therein lieth the rub!

Could be like this:

Anyway it will be a pity if they can't do it. It will be magnificent. Cant imagine what the salt will do to them bikes though...
