You'll have to come ice riding with Nate and me then. We can all have some Sam Adams winter Ale and rip up the ice

Not necessarily in that order

I got lost back in there one time and it was getting really late and low on gas so bailed when I found a gate with snowmobile trail signs pointing towards gas, it was tall enough to ride right under (thanks hunting camp guys, hopefully you found the usage fee slipped under the door). made it out to Little John Rd. which is the only way I can think to get to it from the North, assuming the RT56 entrance is considered the Eastern portion of the property?

Am starting to get to know the trails back there a bit better but they logged a ton of it and made a mess, that's how I got lost so it would be cool if you know the way around, it's a real close ride from my place. 2013 is the year that the seasonal restriction is removed from the easement, it should be open year round from next year on.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled thread about snowmobiles...

I'm not sure I'd admit to even occasional alcohol use here .

I hope the snowmobiling community in that area is able to clean up it's image. It sucks when the whole group gets painted with the same brush............but it's not like some smear campaign based on nothing.

Oh yeah, I've stopped riding my bike some places that cleary do not appreciate how much money motorcyclists spend in their otherwise dead economy...................so fuck them.

Operose, if you ended up on the Little John road you were went through what we call "Gills garden" that's the large clearing with all the roads leading off it. Was there a new wooden trail sign there then? I was back there when they graded all the roads on the KLR. Our hunting club will be affected by the ending easement. Ill give you a call in the spring emti

These same volunteers have to go door to door, every year, and obtain permission for those trails to cross private landowners' land. Even though the NYS Snowmobile Association carries a large liability insurance policy, many landowners are reluctant to agree to have a trail on their property.

98% of the trail system is on private land, and it only takes one sled with loud pipes, one ATV out for a joy ride, or one dirt bike tearing it up before the season starts, to close a segment of trail. Then those volunteers have to find a re-route.

The whole operation is only partially reimbursed from the Snowmobile Trail Fund, which is funded by snowmobile registration dollars (not tax dollars from the general public). The cost of maintaining snowmobile trails exceeds what is collected in registration dollars, so guess what, those volunteers in the snowmobile clubs hold fundraisers to make up the difference.

The snowmobile trail system is a fragile thing. Please - don't break it.

As for snowmobilers being largely drunks, that is a stereotype, and that too is changing. Law enforcement has a presence on the trails and the tickets stick.

Well said.

For the record, the majority of snowmobilers are NOT drunks.

There is over 10,000 miles of snowmobile trails in New York State and about 0 miles of ATV / dirt bike trails in New York State. Why? Because the snowmobilers are organized and the ATVers / dirt bikers are not.

Shear curiosity, snowmobilers can get through the snow-free seasons without needing an ATV or dirt bike to fulfill the void? I know when the weather gets cold and snowy I really start to get stir crazy when I don't ride a motorized vehicle for a few days.

-15F at my place last night, when it is this cold I don't care about riding anything

I heard Tug Hill got a few feet the other day!!

We are going to get a foot tonight they claim, the gas stations, restaurants and bars will be clogged up with trucks and sleds and the county will figure out a new creative way to waste the wheelbarrow loads of tax dollars that are collected
