I really appreciate your smart ass comment ...

The switch was on the bike when I got it, and has been for 50,000 miles..

Just an observation, but I don't think you should make any more ignorant comments.

Thanks!

Thank you for your input

I'll check this out tomorrow!

I hope that's all it is.

Pistolero,
What did you find with your speedo? Mine acted weird yesterday morning on my way to work. Was all over the place, 145-0-92-40-75-2 within about 5 seconds . This went on for about 4 miles then all was well. Have been keeping an eye on it but nothing else weird.

However, it was VERY cold yesterday morning. It must have gotten down to 42 so maybe that had something to do with it.

It was exactly was mine was doing

I posted earlier
"Have you checked your ground wires above the water pump/ clutch cover?
Right side. Two black ground wires bolted in a vertical position directly into the engine casing. "

You can get to from standing behind the right tank. You don't need to take anything off and you can bring up a wrench in there.

Fixed it for me

Problem found but not fixed...

It was not the grounds..
I inspected all of them and they were all fine.

I tested the regulator/rectifier...

18+ V with the high beam on @ 5k RPM

This explains why the.. sensitive sensors.. were acting up with relation to RPM.
also explains why my headlight blew when I reved it to 5k ....

I ordered, and have since received, all the parts needed to do the MOSFET R/R conversion... but...
The semester started shortly after I ordered the parts..
Alas, engineering school is difficult at times ....

So she sits.. dismantled.. and awaiting my return...
