Tried the Corbin dished (hard and not the correct shape) and Sargent (great quality but also not the right shape for me, better than the Corbin). Settled on a Russel. Worth every penny! No numbness ever. 40 K miles and countless 10-14 hour days after days at a time and at least 10, 7-800+ miles days on it now.

A stock seat - 45 minutes before the agony sets in.

When I bought my 08 KLR this past summer, I could not do more than 30 miles without getting numb is some places and hurting badly in others. So, at the urging of a friend he said to cut out the stock foam and replace it with 8# carpet padding. I did just that, 4 layers of carpet padding later I have a very comfortable seat. All it cost was the glue and a 24"x48" piece of carpet pad and now I can go all day on it.
My work is only .5 mile from my house, so I do not commute most days because of the time it takes to put on and take off the gear... Just not worth it for a 2 minute ride. On the weekends and evenings when it stays light after 6, I ride as much as possible.

I've done some 500 mile days on the stock '08 KLR seat.

I wouldn't do that back to back, no way...

I can go 16-18 hours day on my comfy Concours14 with the Airhawk on the seat and cover big miles, just not sure what to expect from a KLR at 70-75 MPH

I took a 10,000 mile round trip from Charleston SC, thru Canada, into AK and back. Mostly on Avon Distanzias, but also did a couple thousand on Kenda 760 Trackmasters. Those Kendas weren't real fun on the highway. Stock seat, too. I stood a lot :lol I now have a sargent's super cell foam insert and AK sheepskin pad. Much more gooder.

I probably averaged 450 miles a day...but had 3 consecutive days which were 700+, 870 miles and 890 miles. A 16T CS and suitable wind protection and the KLR will do fine...not a rocket ship by any stretch of the imagination. I HATE the interstate, though, and much prefer two state roads for long haul on the KLR.

600 a day is my limit, and that's pushing it.

My longest day ever on my klr was 780 miles from Gorham, Maine back to Michigan. I did it on my klr250 in August 2010. I left there at 4 am and got back home at 1 am. The last 3 hours was in pouring rain crossing back through Canada. Needless to say it beat the crap out of me.
