Riding outta Rogers Camp

Met up with LoudAl and Jungleman for a little trail riding. LoudAl played navigator which was great, I just followed along...mostly, thanks Al. JungleMan, as always is a pleasure to ride with - How was the surfing anyways?

One for the ladies...

Bleh

Gotta watch yer stup up there

Was nice to get above the soup for awhile

The higher we got, the warmer it got. Had to be in the 50's on this south facing slope. Could see hood way off in the distance over a dirty grey layer of humanities finest.

All the bikes did great. I think I probably had the most downs, but not the most dramatic. Nothing like battle scars.

Most trails were pretty good, steep muddy climbs that are easy in dry conditions have...er...changed.

Youngblood had the fortune of seeing Al's line.

Hope you made it home safe Al, I suspect the night ride home was better than the icy ride out there. That last climb up to Rogers Camp was "slick" this morning. JungleMan and I chickened out and drove. Trails were in great shape, but a little frozen as the bottom of the canyon in the am, not a fast day, but a fun day.

Just got back from picking up a new trail bike
Got tired of beating up my 610 on the singletrack so I found a sweet
250f for cheep.
Need to go thru it a bit before I take it out, so I wont be able to hit Hood River.
But I do plan on getting out to Diamond Mill. Hoping to be there at noon.
Trails only and looking forward to riding a smaller lightweight bike for once!

WR250F? The more I ride in the woods, the more that bike seems like an ideal woods weapon.

It was a great day for a ride, didn't get to many pics. My camera decided it didn't want to focus for every shot

It was a little chilly to start off

A spot in the sun

Looking forward to the next outing.

One more thing, make sure you have a valid OHV sticker even if you are from Washington

I got in 40 miles of singletrack on the new ride today.
Hit lots of new trails and the new bike ran great.
To good in a way. For sure want a WR250 if I can find one. The YZ is just a bit to fast for this old guy

No riding getting me

I gotta get the bike fixed. Motors out of frame, workbench is cleaned off. Time to get after it. I gotta go ride. Maybe I should just sell my soul and get a couple more bikes! You know for backup.

Gotta love those iphones!

No, those are from Diamond mill.
I made a 40 mile loop north from Diamond Mill, then west, then south to Cedar Creek then out towards Jorden Creek and back.
Got a little lost once and had to backtrack a bit. Good thing I backtracked, as I was two ridges off of where I thought I was. If I had kept going I would have ran out of gas and still be out there

So much new stuff out there! I had passed some of it on my 610 in the past but it was to steep for me to try with a big bike, but with the little 250 i ripped right up and found tons of new single track hidden away

Wish I would have checked this last night instead of drinking 9 beers. I'm heading to the Burn today in about 20 min. I sent you a message here with my phone number.

Played around in TSF for awhile today. Things were a little more muddy than last week, but still in great condition. Not a bad way to kick off 2014.

New Year's day ride report

Not a big fan of riding solo, but tired of letting another beautiful day go by. I staged at the Hwy parking at Jordan Creek. I haven't ridden there in 5-6 years, no map with me, but I remember doing a nice loop up Roger's Road, across the ridge on Firefox, and down Stick in the Nose. I never did find Stick in the Nose, and I guess it's been logged out.

I did find 4 Russians/Ukraine guys out having some fun. They invited me to join them exploring the hills. They were fun to ride with, and they had a fearless sense of adventure. Willing to try any trail, and really not knowing where they were going. They told me stories about spending the night out in the woods several times as a result of not knowing where they were going and not having enough fuel and lights.

We found every part of Firefox, and ended up "exploring" down a closed for logging trail called "Hembre Lookout". I usually don't even attempt closed trails, but the loggers surely had the day off and I wanted to witness some of the Russians' antics. Everything was fine until the trail abruptly ended with a 70ft. cliff into a rock quarry. Our mistake was going down the last 100ft. of really steep 8" minus rock. Oh well. 45 min later we all were back up and out of the hole. I was exhausted. I had 5 times the riding experience of these guys, but I was the last one out. It was a good time, lots of fun.

One of the first sections of Firefox:

Another section of Firefox:

This is the end of Hembre Lookout:

One of the Ukraine guys wisely stopped before the last 100ft. and spent the next 45 min laughing at us as we continued to fall back down the hill:

Good times, and made some new friends.
-Kevin
