Go Guillaume!

Such a nice guy, met him at the Tuareg and I know he takes this race VERY seriously. Will have fingers and toes crossed for his progress.

Met him in Greece and had a coffee with him and a fair amount of emails going back and forth... He is honestly one of the old figures in rally racing. Mentally I mean... He kept training here and run serres with a nice result.
I know wrist is ok now and will be following his progress. His and schattat Sr. 's!

And we move to today...

Stage two is 611 Km....

Liaison : 173 km - SS : 431 km – Liaison : 7 km : Total 611 km

A LONG STAGE TO START THE NEW YEAR

After a liaison which will bring the participants of the 2014 SONANGOL AFRICA ECO RACE® to Erfoud, they will go on the first stage of 2014, starting with the dunes of Merzouga, which isn’t always easy. Once they’ll be out of the erg, they will go on a brand new track through beautiful valleys before crossing the Rheris Oued and finally ending in the small dunes next to Mhamid. They will then join the Chegaga erg going through new tracks. This year, Chegaga will be crossed from east to west, which means it should not be too tough. Lake IRIKI will be the opportunity for the participants to push once more before the arrival and the bivouac in Foum Zguid after a day with all kind of fields. A long stage with nice tracks overall, except a very breaking section of about 10km.

Twitter news from Eco Race:

1h ago, Martens with a broken chain in the Dunes.
It seems that he fixed it and he is on his way.

Martin Fontyn is third at the moment with only 14 people in the ASS.

Martens is not there yet, and Julia from her tracker looks as if she is stationary out of the course. Lots of problems with the trackers so it may be that the tracker does not behave...

its good to see Norbert Dubois going good, I was behind him at the 2010 Dakar when he had a huge crash and was in a bad way ,got him helicoptered out with pretty severe injuries .

Day two was a hell of a day from my take,

Tony Schattat finihsed 16th almost four hours from the first guy, and Julia (one hour ago, update from Elite Service GmbH) is still out on the course waiting for the collecting truck to pick her up as there are a lot of competitors who are out there on the course.
Martens also is not visible in the standings so he may be still out ....

The chain problem he had may be got more serious than originally reported by the organisers....

3rd stage is running at the moment and Gabari is through CP1 @ 9.13.

Four riders @ CP1, Martin not there yet, so he is a bit late, but there is an update from the Africa Eco Race twitter:

''motorcycles blocked by military post at 20km from the start.New start will be given to CP1''

Not good...

Julia finally spend the night in the dunes ...
