Well, it will be 50 /50. It depends on what will happen on the race. Of course KTM will bet on Coma.
(...)
I will try to do my race but if there is a team order to help Coma I'll do it.

Q
But this year it will be like the others? A water carrier for each pilot ?
Are there any designated water carriers or everybody will help each other?

A
No. In this case the situation has changed a bit. Ktm wants to have as much bikes as possible in the first positions. The other teams are very strong. We will see how the race unfolds.
If there is some team work to be done, I imagine I will have to do it, as I am the last to get here, but we will see what happens.
I believe this is how they are all dealing with it, so much talent and sped that they need to be given a few days to see how things are lying before strategies unfold.

But that will mean within such teams (KTM and HRC) that you can't take the first week easy

For those who haven't tried a rally, here's a peek into reading this page from the Dakar Stage 1 roadbook.
! = Hazrard
!! = bigger hazard
!!! = You can die here
P = Piste = the road or trail
S squiggle = twisty road
E3 = narrow
Down arrow = down hill
Up arrow = up hill
+/-V = road or trail is hard to see
WPM = Waypoint Masked (hidden waypoint you must pass through, sort of like a Baja SCORE VCP, but it won't show up on the GPS until you're close to it.
SER - Tight/sharp turn

There are about 75 symbols and abbreviations like these that the rider/navigator needs to memorize.
Each competitor has their own way of marking the roadbook with colored markers, to help read it quicker and more efficiently.

The first roadbook entry, at KM 138.45, basically says "watch out, the course is twisty, narrow, hard to see and goes down hill".

I forgot what the + 9 hrs on US East Coast time did to the thread whilst I got a bit of shut eye - but I'm up now

Sunday is a working day here, but if I'm quick off the blocks this evening I'll see you at the start of the special - only just under 200k but it should be massive in terms of tactics, as a good time today will have you out early the day after and then potentially a little further back on day 3 - the first Marathon stage 1st day, which would be a benefit

#133 Toomas Triisa
A lifetime dream
Nine years after, the Estonian flag will fly over the Dakar rally again. Almost a decade after Taivo Luik started and finished the event (64th) on a bike, two riders from the East European nation will be competing: Toomas Triisa and Mart Meeru. Triisa, the youngest of the pair, is a promising biker who started his career in motocross and rapidly switched to bigger bikes to reach his dream of doing the Dakar. A Honda dealer back home in Tallinn, Toomas will of course be riding a CRF 450 X prepared by the HT Honda rally-raid team. For his maiden Dakar, the 31-year-old has only one wish: to finish the event.

“I started riding bikes when I was only 9 years old. The Dakar is and has always been my lifetime dream. I completely changed my usual training plans for it. I competed in the Touareg and Albania rallies. Now my only objective is to finish this first Dakar.”

#117 Mart Meeru
Hard to know what to expect
Estonia will be proudly represented on this year's Dakar. Nine years after a first Estonian rider started the event and even finished it, there will be two new riders from the East European country at the start. Mart Meeru will be one of them. A motorsports enthusiast, he started riding boosted mopeds. Then came real bikes, jetskis and all types of fast machines on earth, water or snow. An entrepreneur in the forest and wood industry, Mart was able to combine job and passion or rather business with pleasure. Now comes his Everest: the Dakar.

“I've been following the Dakar ever since I was a kid. I remember watching it on TV. For the last five years riding my bike, all I could think about was the Dakar. It's a dream that is now happening. My family and friends are the ones who always supported me and always pushed me to go for it. We don't know a lot about the Dakar and don't know people over there so now it's hard to know what to expect.”

0.25" - 1.30" Estonian flags and cheers

Just thinking to myself, Klim really needs to take note and start making some lighter colour jackets for these boys.
