I'm sure Coma will be delighted with this result. Coma does not like Stage 2's so will be happy to follow.

So if Coma just sits behind Barreda tomorrow, Cyril will have to ride faster than both catch up this advantage. This is the trouble when there is a third spoke in the wheel (so to speak).

Assuming the above then at some stage Barreda will make a mistake which would put Coma in the lead and that would be when Cyril could catch up.

The thing is looking back to 2009-2010-2011, Coma always started in the lead and then began to pull away from Despres. After rest day Coma would let Despres win stages and he would just tail him, refusing to let him get a big lead and forcing him to open the stage each time.

So really having Barreda gives Coma a small safety net to ride fast, just following Barreda's tracks as he opens the stage at lightning pace.

He always starts off slow and careful. It only the 1st day after all. Having said that 8 minutes is quite a lead.

Time will tell

Ya ya only day one...but whoever gets a notable lead after the first few days gets a big advantage as they get to control the race if that makes sense.

I said before in the pre thread. I believe we are on the start of a new milestone or within a year or two of being there. One where the young guys, who have so much confidence and speed, attack at full speed every stage from start to finish. This in turn pushes the veterans to ride a race style they aren't used to...less strategy more full on the gas ALL the time.

Just my two cents

I would say that whoever extends his lead, he gets the other riders to be their watercarriers....

I'm impressed with Metge's pace so far. Not bad for CDP's lackey.

That extra jerrycan of fuel he's carrying, just in case, instead of a camelback?

Knock, knock!

Three different manufacturers in the top three positions! Been a while I suspect since that's happened before.

Back to lurking!
