HRC press release:

It was back on 11th January 1989 when the official Honda HRC savoured victory for the last time. That was when Gilles Lalay took the fifteenth stage of the Paris-Tunisia-Dakar. Now, in the second year back in the event after a 24 year official absence, Joan Barreda has picked up a crucial first stage win on the CRF450 RALLY. After 25 years, Honda are back in the running.

Am I the only one who thought the opening days in the dunes of Peru were much better than the wrc roads in Argentina? I recall thinking Peru was a dream landscape for the Dakar, seems such a shame to not have them again this year...

I commented a couple of weeks ago, thta his "eyes" do not have "it" anymore... time for matador to take up the manager role in a factory team... the pro DIY boogi thing isn't doing it for him. I never thought his driving style would translate well to 2WD/rear enging/RWD buggy, the Toureg in his hands was 3 seconds a kilometer better proposal.
