My pet peeve with these self centered asshats is that they get away with their conduct. Cops never enforce any traffic regulations that these guys break. If you or I drove recklessly, created a traffic hazard or disregarded the rules of the road we'd get ticketed. When was the last time you saw a cop with a bicyclist pulled over for anything?

Wouldn't sweat it-- it's been a long brutal Winter, and it can only get worse.

Anything can touch off the [rant][/rant] mode.

Most bikers are OK. It's the BAD ones that are memorable...

+1 I can say the same about people who hold/don't hold doors. I always bitch about the person who doesn't follow the courtesy which is more like 1/10 th of the general population.

I saw a cop stop and write a ticket to a bicyclist for running a stop sign. I agree it doesn't happen often, but it happens. This was in an area with a lot of weekend riders.

I was pulled over for running a stop sign here in ATL. Tertiary road mind you (I don't ride in big groups, always on the white line unless it's safer for us all.) Super quiet, Sunday morning big money neighborhood scene. I had great vis and was the only vehicle in the area. Except that is for the unmarked car parked 100yds from the intersection.

Dude hit his blues and raced after me like I had just robbed a bank. Honestly I thought he must have gotten a call to move out but at the bottom of the hill he pulls up next to me and starts yelling. We stop and he gives me a good scolding while I nod politely and think about all of the other crimes my tax dollars might be investigating. I'm guessing it was some sort of marital gap driving his behavior, that or the extra 100lbs of mass he was sporting.

Only 11 weeks to spring....

And a fail!

Since another inmate was complaining about the attitude of bicyclist on a charity event ride, and "why don't the cops write tickets" rant came up....I recall this:

Several years ago, while helping support a charity bicycle ride (I drive a van to assist with the cyclists, and for the record, I ride bicycles as well) a city cop in a small town (well known for one Winston Churchill speech that defined the term Iron Curtain) was handing out tickets for the cyclists who were blowing through and not coming to a complete stop at the sign in town on the route. We were told to gently remind the following cyclists that tickets were being issued, and as participants, they were required to follow the rules of the road. This bit of wisdom was quickly passed among the riders and the rest minded their p's and q's during the day.

All I got to say is, that some people need to be reminded, and if a ticket gets their attention, so be it!

Obligatory pic...

looks like I'm late to this one, but Tigger is soooo quiet, they never hear me coming up behind 'em.

so I just use my trusty air horn to let 'em know I'm trying to get past

almost never fails to clear a path pretty quickly

so all y'all pedal pushers flame on
