you don't look any wetter than we were on Stony Run.

Happy New Year to the Cat Herders.

I am planning on making it back down there again this year. (New Years resolution)

Hope to meet a higher percentage of all you folks.

The spring on 55 is good. Waites Run is good too.

Or stop by here and get some well water.

Talking So I Hear It's Cold and Snowy Back in Herder Land

We get our periods of dismal rain, and there's nowhere near enough snowpack in the mountains, but today was the local Washington State Beemer Bubba meeting over the water in Mukliteo. Just had to get up early and go . . .

Fields heavy with silver frost
Fog creeping up Liberty Bay
Road's good, mostly
except for the spun-out Suburban
Sun peaks over the ferry,
Ramp's a little slick

Gentle, gentle throttle on the GS
Tire tracks are your friend.

A little mid-winter 3-ferry ride around the Puget Sound.

Kingston ferry, three riders looking for the sun

North Cascades in the background

Meeting was at a golf course club-house/restaurant . . . you mean they play golf in this stuff? I'd rather ride!

Waiting for the Mukilteo ferry

Here it is!

Mt Baker, behind my gull-ible friend.

a lighthouse on every point, and a point to every lighthouse . . . this one's the Mukilteo light.

Approaching Whidbey Island, where I was stationed as a young LTJG a couple of centuries ago.

North on Whidbey, towards Oak Harbor and the Naval Air Station, but turn right before you get there, towards the old coastal defense Ft Casey. There you catch:

Port Townsend Ferry

To the right of the point, Strait of Juan De Fuca, a few miles further is Cape Flattery, then Japan. (Geography's compressed for old farts).

Port Townsend on the right, it's paper mill on the left, and the Olympic Mountains brooding over both.

Happy New Year to y'all!!

Awesome pics and ferry report Dan! I love travelling on Ferries up in Canada and exploring the various decks and rooms open to the public. Looks chilly but not unbearable out there.

Macaroni and I are headed west this weekend. And by west I mean westbygodvirginia. And by this weekend I mean we are planning to ride the usual haunts on Saturday. And by usual haunts I mean Long Run, Rough Run, Westside, Dunkle, Union, et al.

Anyone know what those roads look like these days? We did get almost 7/8 of an inch of snow here last week... I'm just not sure what that translates to out there.

So... anyone want to join us?

I was up mountainbiking around Wolf Gap and Cedar Creek this weekend. Most fo the forest roads were predictably covered in ice and snow with many hunter's 4x4 tracks. Here are a couple pics of what I imagine the less traveled roads will look like.

Temps aim to warm up later this week and there should be some rain to melt most of the ice but it should still be pretty slick and muddy in some spots.

Tons of sketchy shit like this:

But any of the forest roads with sunshine on them are likely clear in the straights and sketchy in the shade.

Matt and I have agreed to put on our big girl panties and ride the ice. Anyone else game?

gastone, I'll try and get out there and see what they look like this week but I doubt it will be good.

We were thinking of either riding to the bike show in DC or going kayaking if we can find some water. I'll add your travels to the list of fun things we could do this weekend.
