In thinking of Sherco. I wont mention Yamaha because it wouldn't be right to.

What do the pundits say?
It's plausible. Sounds like they're second guessing themselves as to whether it's gonna be too hard too soon.

1998 Paris-Granada-Dakar.
• 14th stage: Atar – Boutilimit (490 km including 290 km of special stage)
A desert storm makes the going rough in the special stage. England’s John Deacon comes in ahead of Peterhansel and Italy’s Meoni.

He stopped to help Chavo who went down hard avoiding a Yamaha rider who was down just behind a blind jump. Chavo caked the front end and Shane, Paolo Ceci, and Claudio Rodrigues stopped to help.

He is a f5¤%&in' Aussie... listen the interviews ya' wombat!!!
Not several but one. Stage 15 of Dakar 1998. Atar to Boutilimit.

EDIT - Flood beat me to it but the text is different than the results. Stage 14 or 15 depending on whether or not you count the cancelled stage 10. Either way, Deacon won one stage.

That is hectic! I thought he had just taken a tumble on his own.

To keep on blabbering statistics, the only Brits (well, not counting Grabbie, our old Tommy!) to achieve a top ten stage result since Deacon are Sam.....and Pyndon last year!

I can't translate it but I see the words frustration and over in the first sentence.

Pål Anders Ullevålseter Offisielle Fanside · 7,145 like this
4 minutes ago ·

When looking through, it's stunning that so few have done well. Dakar is all but unknown in the US yet there have been several American stage winners. It's surprising to me.

Yep... I've accused him of raising the French white flag in the past... but for DAKAR I am sure he will tough it out.
