from http://dakar.fr/dakar/2014/fr/etape-...e-special.html

Changement de parcours sur l'étape du jour

  • Les Motos/Quads prennent le départ au Km 130 de la spéciale.
  • Nouvelle arrivée autos/camions juste après le kilo 222 initial nouveau kilométrage de 240
looks like they're trimming the start of the stage for the bikes/quads, and the end for the cars/trucks

But.. If I were to think about it I'd come up with this.

He's in a good position for tomorrow.

He's been around since 2000.
New three year contract.
He's on a bike which may not go the distance so strike while the iron is hot.
He's pissed after playing second fiddle to Chaleco.
He can smell it

Oh and he looks like a big strong boy who has a good set of lungs !
And two of the fastest and hardest charging youngsters have got it out of their system already..

What do ya reckon ?

Give me chance, just got of a plane - no on board technology available yet. Will be sporadic later though, but if Sam can get a 3rd/4th today that will be a result!

The next two days will undoubtedly set the scene for the rest of the race. The possible permutations in the top 10 is very intriguing. Fast, young, low nav experienced riders, ahead of aliens. As Cyril has shown today with his tumble...anything can and will happen. Could this just be the BEST Dakar ever?

F5 noob but can't get enough of this damn thread, It's like your very own private expert anaysis

Hoping Grabbo has a good run in the next two days.

Quietly expecting Bam Bam to go Boom.. Backwards. He just seems to ride on the ragged edge to much for me.

Good morning(/afternoon/evening/whatever), all.
*yawns*

(I'm gonna sit over here in the corner and try to catch up, K?)
(Hmmm, first thing I notice is that the start's been pushed back to 0950 and I could have slept another hour, dangitall.)

I know in Race to Dakar (Boorman) there was a scene in which they discussed that tyre were flown in with all the malle moto boxes - if the crew recalled putting them on the plane in their case . In theory even all the aliens and top riders have boxes even if they aren't used. UNless things have changed from Africa days I would assume that basic maintenance items, fluids, filter tyres and emergency repairs would certainly be allowed... if done solely by the rider.

I recall Simon Pavey talking last year about breaking his entire bike down just for 'practice.'

I may be very mistaken but I thought I recalled a story a few years back that Alain was actually a child in Dakar watching the bike arrive and wanted to race - Have I got him confused with someone else?
