Sounds like he stopped several times as it must have kept konking out on him. Trying to fix a borked wiring harness can be a big enough hassle in the shop let alone out on the course just trying to twist things back together. Especially when the whole tower has been knocked loose and keeps pulling things apart.

Euphemisms in motorsport...

So... let me see if I've got this right...? (probably not)

When you cartwheel the bike, to the point where you knock the rear guard off, pretzel the navigation tower and the subsequent vibrations while continuing to press on, cause the aluminium staunchons of the cockpit framework to sheer and chisel through the wiring...

... that's an electrical fault then is it? Riiiiiiiight.

Did he cause damage to the motor causing it to ultimately fail on stage and that is why he is being towed?

I guess am just pointing out that the reason he doesn't start tomorrow could ultimately be related to his ride and not anything to do with the team.
I think when Pizzolito and Helder saw Bang bang, the bike looked like a wreck and was in pieces like we saw in some of that initial footage. Barreda did a good job making the bike look okay-ish for the cameras with duct tape pushing it over the finish line.

The electrical issue almost certainly revolved around the stability of his nav tower, which had became a problem after the crash. In my experience (the same situation just a lot further back in a different rally!) it all seemed okay...until I could not read my road book anymore after some 10 km - the whole thing was shaking around, and I was forced to stop and stabilise things somehow. I did this with my tow rope, lashing the tower to the fairing.

The problem is that you cant tie a tower to anything once the brackets are broken except the fairing. It flops around and when you turn the bike the stanchions moves everything around, and so if you dont remove it completely, the torn metal and weight of the thing sagging into your fairing is enough shear through wires very quickly. This is where the electrical problems start.

The best thing you can to if you have damaged you tower is to dismantle it and strap it to your back like someone did in the Dakar a couple of years ago. At least that way you don't further damage your electrics. Its a big job and you will lose probably more time than what Bang bang did. But you will be able to finish.

I tried to do what Bang bang did -patch it up and make it look okay- and I only just finished the special 15km later. I had to push my bike away from time control. Nothing worked. We still had a 403km liaison that day and it took me another 10 hours to complete that, arriving in the night with no lights, nothing except the engine still working on a ignition circuit that somehow survived. I was amazingly lucky. And so was Barreda.

Just checked the stages results, there are a couple of penalties there (Pedrero missed a WP?)... But no engine penalty for JBB, so maybe the "attack till the end" mentality is not only JBB's but a team thing.
