It all sounds a bit chaotic for a full factory team. There was speculation about Bam Bam's job being in jeopardy yesterday but I wouldn't be surprised if the HRC big wigs may look at team management instead? The failure to curb Barreda's enthusiasm to suit the circumstances and lack of support following the inevitable crash fest smacks of poor management to me (not to say BB doesn't share a large portion of the responsibility himself). What a mess!

Stage Winner today?

Is there any chance of navigation being an issue? I doubt, prolly the 157 km SS are lined with spectators and the tracks of the slower 68 bikes.

3 minutes gaps also reduce the tactics and interaction, so it looks like a chrono to the finish. What are your bets?

Pain?
Despres?
Svitko?
Barreda?

An interesting consideration is that there will be no backup for the 3 leaders of the overall if they have a mechanic, there's no one to tow you in. I don't believe KTM throws away a chance of a 1-2, so Viladoms should not have to wait three minutes for Coma, but this means Coma must complete the stage on his own steam, there won't be a singe Malle Moto to help him.

I'd like to see Perfect Peterhansel go full on and take the win. Screw team orders, screw giving the win to Mr Roma..."I am Mr Dakar, screw you all. This is my race!"

Then I'd like to see go back to bikes for a year, I bet he could top ten finish still

Re Peter/Nani: tdp said that tomorrow (today), all team orders have been retracted, maybe that's the public image they want out, and behind closed doors it has been settled already (which way we will find out in short while)..

Sultans of sand f5 style...

intro...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gQ4px9Ri0Y0

You got a shiver in ya’ crack,
It's a dark in bivouac, but meantime:
South of the CP, you stop and you hold everything...
The sand is blowin' pixels, double-four time.
You feel alright then you see “GPS fail....”

Well, you look in the sand, but you don't see too many traces.
Comin' in outta terrain, you see the sun go down...
There’s competitions in other places...
But the winds, they blowin' that sound.
Way on down south…
Way on down south, DAKAR-bound…

Check out Alain Duclos, he knows what’s the go,
But he’s strictly in it; he doesn’t wanna make a try obscene.
They say an old Sherco is all he can afford,
When he gets out into the dunes to do his thing.

And Farres doesn't mind if he didn't make the Team.
He’s gotta fact’ry ride, he's doin’ alright.
An’ he can make that GasGas honk like anythang…
Savin' it up for DAKAR right?!
With the Sultans,
With the Sultans of Sand…

And a crowd of cool dudes, they're just tooling around in the corner,
Drinkin’ SPEED in their best orange-tee baggies an’ their motor-homes.
The don't give a dang about any MINI drivin’ gang…
It ain't - as they say - “how we roll…”
And the Sultans,
Yes the Sultans say “ass’¤le…”

(yeah..ass¤le)

Sultan solo in the dunes…

And then Etienne, he steps right up to the microphone.
He says it fast, just as the nine bell rings,
"Bonsoir, now is time for breef-ing"
And he gestures fast, with his left hand;
"We the Sultans,
"Oui ...are the Sultans of Sand…"

Excellent super sultan of sand solo…. fade out…

I imagine Peterhansel will go all out for the win regardless and I hope he does!

I say BBB for stage win, CD 2nd.

Cd will miss podium for mere seconds.

My bet is in.

PS: (I have never been proven right in my predictions)

What does it feel like?

Pyndon, are you there?

While we wait for the inevitable drama to start, can you try put into words, for those of us that won't ever experience it, what THIS feels like?
