There was once a kid named Mamola that could argue for that crown.

I can empathise somewhat with his feelings. The stuff about being bullied at school and then withdrawn to be home-schooled is quite revealing. Those emotions go deep, and being further isolated can't have helped.

I liked Oxleys line here:

Yep. Far too much of that practiced PRtalk everywhere these days.
I think it depends on the personality. Stoner was a 'genius', as Oxley said. Every media wag in the paddock wanted a piece of him. Take CEIII for example; nobody seems to care what he says...

Tru Dat. It's hard to think of Mamola and Pedrosa at the same time. I don't think their personalites could be any more different.

Totally agree Pantah.

Often Edwards and Stoner would essentially say the same thing, be that criticism of a rider or the track or at times tyres etc, but only one would garner the excessive vitriolic abuse as a whinger whilst everyone would laugh at the other with comments like 'well said Col' etc. The difference is delivery and the fact that Edwards (like Rossi and some others) will smile when delivering criticism which some people seem to believe makes it more 'fun' , but the messages are still the same.

IMO, and I suspect I am not alone here, but please give me riders who speak from the heart and are genuine with their comments, allow these guys to describe the situation and incidents in their words and not those of a media savvy lacky. Rainey, Doohan, Lawson, Gardner, Sheene etc all spoke freely as should the modern rider.

I like the comment, " not as fit as I should be..." There'd be lucky to be a fitter guy on the planet!

I believe Lorenzo will be very aggressive in the first couple of races in 14. He is going to try and break MM early. If it doesn't happen after the first 2 or 3 races then it is MM season again. I really don't think he can be broke mentally...

If Pedrosa is smart, he will sit back and pick up the pieces from the inevitable Marquez and Lorenzo fireworks.

There have been some big changes in the Pedrosa camp, too. No telling whether they will be positive, negative, or no change.

When the bike is right, DP can be unbeatable.

That is the absolute truth. Dani is the fastest man on earth half of the time...

I think that is the best description of Dani I have ever read. Nice one Pantah...

just as likely, or more so Dani falls off, and has to pick up his own pieces.

Yeah, that was what I meant to say.. you managed it more eloquently than I did!
I had forgotten about Colin, (shame on me), yeah, he is a great antidote to the PR drones.

Edwards a favorite of ours

I'm reminded of a story that happened a few years ago. While walking the paddock with my wife following the USGP at Laguna Seca, we came upon a young girl selling Yamaha visors she represented as being signed by Colin Edwards.

When I asked how I could be sure they were authentic, she said, "Because he's my Dad!" To which my wife replied, "then we'll take two".
