Trona Wildrose Rd is closed. not Panamint Valley Rd.

Google Maps shows it as Panamint Valley right where it intersects with 190. There are road closed signs right there at the start of the road ~3miles east of Panamint Springs hotel, where I spent the past 3 nights :). I ignored the signs (placed close enough to prohibit a car from going through but not a bike) and the road construction wasn't for at least 15 miles south of those signs.... had the road to ourselves..

Edit:
Traveling south, there are also road closed signs where Trona-Wildrose splits off to the Northeast to head toward the Charcoal Kilns (and the other side of the road by the Charcoal Kilns) as well as right at the west terminus of Ballrat Rd (which google maps does have labeled as T-W).

To clarify

yellow lines = road closed signs that bikes can get through
red line = can't get through, chains..

I get it.
signs are up at where Panamint Valley Rd starts at the 190. the washout is ON Trona Wildrose Rd.

there are signs leaving Trona saying the road is closed, but you can go well past the road the goes into Ballarat before it's actually "closed".

and it's technically the Inyo County Sheriff not the CHP. (we spoke to Panamint Springs Resort folks about the situation)

either way, there is a cop that will give out tickets. we passed through and saw no one. and it really should not be closed.

if you're not going to "break the law", you can ride Nadeau Rd but that route is not noob friendly.

Gotcha.

Guy at Panamint (employee) on Sat was actually bitching that CHP was patrolling the county road as well as the sheriff however... so maybe they are both giving out tickets.

the washout is right where the word 'Trona Wildrose Rd' in the middle.

there are plenty of other ways around that we took. again, not noob friendly.

We camped at the entrance to Ballorat on Wildrose Rd. on Saturday night. From there I had a clear view of the barricades that close Wildrose road (about 150 yds away). During the night and early Sunday morning quite a few vehicles drove up, moved the the barricade, drove through, and then replaced the closed signs.

North pass ice section

I headed down north pass from the north today. About 12 miles down I ran into a pretty bad ice section on a downhill. Is was like a zamboni machine went through there. I was by myself so I turned around. I might have made it down but I doubt I could get back up it. Its thick and in the shadows so it may be there a while. A 4x4 would probably make it.

Good to know, as I've been getting the itch to give it a go, seeing how beautifully graded the road is. I'll wait until the spring thaw and try to get in before it turns into washboard madness.
