Bmw r80 st

My mate bought a BMW PD, its got a blue seat and did 800 kms of gravel on the weekend.
I spotted this on TM and thought ah what the hell, I can always move it on....

Comes with panniers too.
Only problem is its in Featherston , well south of the Bombays.
Its an odd model, sort of an R65 meets GS.

When I was a self employed Sparkie/Air Con guy, I had 1 that ran, since I sold my soul to the US Corporation more.

Gee I miss grovelling under houses and up in ceilings and lugging Air Con stuff around.

Thanks ACC for telling me my back problem was due to old age, fuck off and don't bother us again.

Bugger is thats he's off on holiday till the 18th...

Went on the ultimate ADV ride for a Jaffa today....over the Bombays.
Gravel is pretty hard to find around Auckland so took a spin down to Port Waikato, then a bit of gravel to SH22, across to Meremere for a much needed latte. Then it was over the Hunuas, a bit more gravel and boring old motorway home.

The ST has R65 forks so it steers really well and I hate to admit it the mono offers a much better ride than twin shocks.
Even with dualsport tyres I found you could throw it around bends much the same as a road bike.
Awesome on SH22.
I suck at gravel, mostly under 30 MPH ( its a US bike) but on good straight bits 50 MPH.
Rutted roads are hard work.
T'was a fun afternoon out and about 160 miles.

That is NICE!

I was out on me R80 today - quick ride to Leamington to see Stretch.
He's down here with his boy's rowing team.

Cheers, other riders must like the colour too as wait for it....got a wave from a passing 'Bro' on his Harley....and a guy on a super Motard.
I managed to get stuck in the dry sand at the Waikato, had to put it first and walk it out.

It looks very nice. I had a red one some years back. Wish I still had it. What is the rear shock - still stock?

yes I think its stock, coming from a twin shocker any old mono is probably an improvement.
Fork seals are leaking. PO said it was green when he got it, looks good in green.

I recently rode one that was exactly the same colour

Nice looking bikes. If I was going to buy an airhead I'd buy an ST if I could find one (unless I could find a basic...).

After being towed out of the forest with a dead battery cleaned up the battery tray, painted it and fitted a new Motobatt MB51814.
Dual USB charger ordered for keeping stuff charged on the go.
Tight fit are the batteries in these but you can wiggle the out the top.

Thinking 'barkbuster; type bars for round the bars, any suggestions?( cheap would be good)
Got a stock GS sump with bash plate, has anyone made a diy one?

By bashplate, do you mean the stock GS Pie Dish? Sort of a corrugated tin thing that just fits the sump? Fairly sure Schmidtty has got one of those. Gus is currently wearing a DIY bashplate. 4mm alloy, but putting bends in would be a job for a hydraulic press I'm thinking. It bolts onto the sump just like the pie dish thingie, but with thick tube / washers as standoffs.

I've also just got a stock GSPD one off the bent bike. You can get a replica off ebay.
